This is a Tough One

This is a tough passage and the clearest explanation I’ve ever heard. What are your thoughts?

It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit,  who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance. To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace. Land that drinks in the rain often falling on it and that produces a crop useful to those for whom it is farmed receives the blessing of God. But land that produces thorns and thistles is worthless and is in danger of being cursed. In the end it will be burned.

  1. powerful… I think the entire key as it always has been in meaningful relationships, and especially with our Lord, is ‘repentance’…if you have tasted of all the goodness of God and known the joy of heaven awaiting, then deliberately choose unbelief and turn your back on Him and all that He has given, including life eternal, this very action evokes extreme pride and rebellion in your own heart. It would be most difficult, virtually impossible — but for the grace of God — to repent after knowing all His goodness and turning away from Him and His great gift of salvation. However, the prodigal son is one who did exactly this…he scorned his inheritance, yet in great sorrow and brokenness and humility — returned — and was welcomed back by his Father with open arms. I believe God’s arms are always open. It is our own sinful hearts which betray us. It is noteworthy in Revelation Chapter 9 that even after many horrible disaster come upon the earth, people STILL refuse to REPENT…of their demon worship and their idols, their murders, witchcraft, immorality, drug abuse (notable in the Greek text), and theft. We are called daily to live lives and bear ‘fruit’ in keeping with repentance, (Matthew 3:8) may God empower us to do so.
