Jesus Yielded Up His Spirit

And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
Matthew 27:50 NASB1995‬

And Jesus uttered a loud cry, and breathed His last.
Mark 15:37 NASB1995‬

And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.

Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.
John 19:30 NASB1995‬

The above verses are four accounts of the death of Jesus Christ. Jesus fulfilled the Father’s plan. Jesus accomplished the work He was sent to do out of love and obedience to God, the Father.

Jesus *said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.

Therefore when he had gone out, Jesus *said, “Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in Him;

HE HAS RISEN, so

. . . do not go on presenting the members of your body to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves to God as those alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.
Romans 6:13 NASB1995‬

It was planted in good soil beside abundant waters, that it might yield branches and bear fruit and become a splendid vine.” ’
Ezekiel 17:8 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/ezk.17.8.NASB1995

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.
I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
John 15:4-5 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/jhn.15.4-5.NASB1995

May the reality of what Jesus Christ did for you on the cross draw you to repentance – the asking and receiving of His pardon for your sin against God – and fill your heart with full joy in celebration of Jesus on Resurrection Sunday.

Gethsemane

Then Jesus *came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and *said to His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed.
Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.”
And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” .  .  .
He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Your will be done.”
Matthew 26:36-39, 42 NASB1995‬

Jesus deeply grieved. Jesus humble. Jesus stressed. Jesus human. Jesus fell on His face and prayed to His Father. Jesus prayed wanting to obey the Father more than to run the other way. Jesus, willing to be the sacrifice for you. For me. Jesus paid the price. His life for those who believe.

Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God, was sacrificed. . .

🌹Then He *came to the disciples and *said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Get up, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!”
Matthew 26:45-46 NASB1995‬

Do This in Remembrance

For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus in the night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way He took the cup also after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”
1 Corinthians 11:23-25 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/1co.11.23-25.NASB1995

Every time we, as Christians, take the Lord’s supper, we are reminded that we are sharing in the body and blood of Christ.

Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ?
1 Corinthians 10:16 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/1co.10.16.NASB1995

Jesus came serving the Father, surrendered to His will. Jesus gave His life out of love and in obedience to the Father. As followers of Christ are we willing to surrender our lives to serve our Lord? Whatever the cost?

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
Matthew 20:28 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.20.28.NASB1995

🌹Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted to the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments, as at this day.”
1 Kings 8:61 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/1ki.8.61.NASB1995

‭Jesus paid the ultimate price, His life for you. Are you ready to surrender your life for Him?

The Last Passover

While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
Matthew 26:26-29 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.26.26-29.NASB1995

Jesus blessed the bread. The bread represents His body that was broken. Crucified.
Jesus gave thanks for the cup. The cup that represents His blood poured out for many for the forgiveness of sin.
Jesus made a promise. A promise of hope for all believers and followers of His. The next time He drinks of the fruit of the vine will be when all believers are gathered in His Father’s kingdom.

Meditate this week on Jesus and His ultimate, sacrificial giving of Himself for you. On Friday Christians will celebrate the Lamb of God who sacrificed His life for them. As we celebrate let us remember Jesus died for all mankind. Pray for the lost who do not know the gift Jesus has for them. Take an opportunity to share the good news with someone this week. Invite them to a Good Friday service or share what this day is all about.

Lord, turn our hearts to You.

More Than Sacrifice

Every man’s way is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts.
To do righteousness and justice Is desired by the Lord more than sacrifice.

Wonderful God! 🙌

Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders which You have done, And Your thoughts toward us; There is none to compare with You. If I would declare and speak of them, They would be too numerous to count.
Psalms 40:5 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.40.5.NASB1995

‭‭God, what a tremendous blessing it is to worship and know the One who does great and unsearchable things, miracles without number. You alone do great wonderful acts for Your lovingkindness is everlasting. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. My heart rejoices when I awake each new day and I am still with You. Praise to You my wonderful God! In the glorious name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Anger

He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit, than he who captures a city.
Proverbs 16:32 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/pro.16.32.NASB1995

Anger. This is an issue that everyone has dealt with at some point in their lives. I trust that some anger has been demonstrated in outbursts unbecoming of a “Christian”. I’ll admit I have lost my temper and spoken words of anger.

Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,
Galatians 5:19-20 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/gal.5.19.NASB1995

As I was meditating on Proverbs 16:32, the question came to mind, “How does anger affect my walk with God?”

Anger puts me in the driver’s seat, dethrowning God. I have taken control of my life instead of trusting God.

Anger is pride. Why am I angry? Because what I believe you think or say about me is wrong. Jesus was accused of many things that were not true. Who I am is who God says I am. I am to be humble, not self-centered. It is not about “me” but all about God!

Letting go of anger means we, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, can control the situation.

A gentle answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 15:1 NASB1995‬‬

Lord God, help me to turn from anger, a deed of the flesh.

The Success of God’s Word

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater;
So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.
Isaiah 55:10-11 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/isa.55.10.NASB1995

God supplies:
– rain for the earth to bear seed to make bread.
– rain on the pasture for the livestock to graze. Isaiah 30:23
God will also:
– supply and multiply the seed for sowing the seed of righteousness. 2 Corinthians 9:10
God’s word:
– will accomplish – every knee will bow, every tongue swear allegiance to Him.
Isaiah 45:23
– is everlasting Matthew 24:24:
– was accomplished in the body of Jesus Christ, salvation available to all mankind. Isaiah 53:10

Just as God’s word does not come back empty without accomplishing His desire,

Man’s steps are ordained by the Lord, How then can man understand his way?
Proverbs 20:24 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/pro.20.24.NASB1995

‭‭By seeking God through His word and prayer.

The mind of man plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.
Proverbs 16:9 NASB1995‬‬

🌹The steps of a man are established by the Lord, And He delights in his way.

By One Man

As Resurrection Sunday approaches, the Scriptures can prepare our heart as we reflect on what a tremendous impact this event has on all mankind.

For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.
1 Corinthians 15:21 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/1co.15.21.NASB1995

Sin entered the world in the Garden of Eden through the disobedience of one man. It continues to be a threat to mankind today.
‭‭
Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
James 1:15 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.1.15.NASB1995

‭‭Sin brings about death. Eternal, forever dying death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/rom.6.23.NASB1995

But God. . . !!!

Jesus came as a man to earth. Through Him, this one man, comes eternal life for all who believe.

Do you believe?
