Going Through the Motions?

Genesis 34:7-32

Circumcision is a sign of the covenant between God and Abraham and His descendants. Jesus replaced that covenant with His blood He shed on the cross.

Here’s my heart — Hamor and his people get circumcised for their own selfish reasons (21-23). Many accept Jesus for what they can get out of it, not for the purpose of being transformed into the image of God. Result? What they thought they had — a bright future was their demise. Wrong motives, wrong reason.

Are we living for Jesus, doing and saying (existing) to bring Him glory? Or are we going through the motions?

I’d say it’s a time for prayer:

“Examine me, O Lord, and try me;
Test my mind and my heart.” Psalm 26:2
“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;” Psalm 139:23

Examine me, search me, try me. . .

“Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

Amen.

Continually seeking Him,

Sharon
