For He founded it upon the seas and established it upon the rivers. Psalm 24:2
This didn’t make much sense to me as I began to memorize this verse. I understand that “it” is the earth that belongs to the Lord. So the earth was founded upon the seas? Hmm. Better meditate on this a bit. . . . .
So as I am reciting this verse it comes to me that this is in Genesis.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Makes sense why the Psalmist said the earth was the Lord’s.)
2 The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. 6 Then God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” 7 God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. (Hmm. Catch that? There was water over the surface. There was water everywhere.)
Then God said, “Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear”; and it was so. 10 God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good. (Land, earth, was founded, established, upon the seas. The land appeared as the water gathered together.)
My conclusion on memory and meditation of Psalm 24:2? God founded and established this earth on which we live. He is Creator. It belongs to Him. We belong to Him. He has ultimate rule. He is King. Realizing He is Supreme, I humble myself before Him, surrendering my life — the one He gave me — for His purpose and His glory.
How about you? Jesus is waiting.
Continually seeking Him,
Sharon
