Giving to Those in Need

But Peter said, “I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene-walk!”

Acts 3:6 NASB

Yesterday I was approached to help someone with gas. This person had been helped before – and not too long ago – through our benevolence ministry. Being unable to accommodate the request I took what few dollars I had in my wallet and gave.

What I gave would satisfy for the moment but what if I had taken the time to share the gospel?

That person would have left with a much greater treasure in meeting Jesus or they might not ever return because they wouldn’t want to hear the message again.

God’s precious gospel changes lives. We are called to share it. We must be bold. We must be obedient.

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.'”

For additional boldness and obedience in the gospel read Acts 4 and 5.

Let’s make a difference.

Our Amazing Jesus

But Jesus made no further answer; so Pilate was amazed.
Mark 15:5 NASB

And He did not answer him with regard to even a single charge, so the governor was quite amazed.
Matthew 27:14 NASB

I’m currently participating in a Bible study with a great group of women that is about opening our eyes to the wonder of God.

These two passages speak of Pilate and Herod both being amazed by Jesus and how He responded to untrue accusations against Him. They were amazed.

I am blessed to often being amazed at Jesus and His continued work in the world today. One particular time was this weekend.

Starting at the beginning. . . I bought some books for my five-year-old granddaughter about 2-3 weeks ago that I have in my kindle and she has a kindle too so Mom could read to her at home. Well my granddaughter’s kindle broke before the books were ever read. Remember that God’s timing is perfect.

This weekend my husband and I had a day of teaching “patience” to our granddaughter – which is not easy for a five-year-old – while having a day of fun and fellowship. That night I am reading one of the books I had purchased 2-3 weeks prior. The story of Esther. She had to be patient, waiting on God’s perfect timing to save her nation.

In God’s perfect timing this book was read to my granddaughter to build upon her day. Needless to say I was amazed!!

What an awesome God we have that He is interested in a five-year-old and answering the prayers of a grandmother as she prays for her granddaughter.

To God be the glory!

The Gravity of Prayer

Mark 14:32-42 tells of Jesus and His praying in the Garden of Gethsemane just prior to His crucifixion. He took three of His closest disciples with Him and said to them, “keep watch and pray”.

We don’t always know or grasp the magnitude of someone else’s pains or struggles. How often when asked to pray for or with them do we seriously take the time to pray? We often think that prayer for others is for their benefit but as we pray for them we are affected – able to see God’s intervention which could come through us in other ways beyond prayer. Prayer puts us in God’s perspective and will.

Creation reveals God

430am vs 830am this morning. I am usually looking at darkness this early in the morning but today God lit up His creation with snow. I love how the snow lights up the darkness especially at 430am.

For His invisible attributes, that is, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what He has made. As a result, people are without excuse. Romans 1:20

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16

We are God’s creation and knowing, walking daily with, being obedient to Him, our light will shine.

Worship

Because of his strength I will watch for You,
For God is my stronghold. Psalm 59:9

The Lord also will be a stronghold for the oppressed, A stronghold in times of trouble; Psalm 9:9

He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken. Psalm 62:2

My God in His lovingkindness will meet me; Psalm 59:10a

Worship is my happy place. Only in worship is my mind free from the cares of the world, of life. Only in worship is my soul truly at peace. Only in worship is real joy filling my heart. Only in worship can I find the strength to face each day, every situation with the right perspective. Only in worship am I fully in the presence of God.

Enter His presence today and be blessed.

Zechariah’s Story

Luke 1:5-23; 57-79

Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist

Imagine not being able to speak for 9 months (40 weeks) then you answer a question, “What is your son’s name?” You break from tradition by naming your son John which shakes up the whole countryside and then the gospel comes forth from your lips.

There is a message there. God is not a God of tradition but of salvation, renewal, mercy who has given us the privilege to serve Him without fear in holiness and rightousness in His presence all our days.

THAT IS WHAT JESUS DID FOR US! HALLELUJAH!!!!!

Did you catch that? It is a privilege to serve Him.

Thank God for the privilege to serve Him and then ask for opportunity to share the gospel.

Are You A Christian?

Matthew 21:33-43

Parable of a Landowner.

I have always read and understood this passage as God being the owner of the vineyard and Jesus the Son whom He sent. But that is as far as my understanding went until this morning.

The Holy Spirit unveiled something in verse 41 and 43. The priests and Pharisees understood that the vineyard would be taken away and given to those who would produce fruit.

I wonder, am I producing fruit for the Kingdom of God? How many people call themselves Christians but don’t produce fruit? No fruit, no vineyard.

Verse 43 – “Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing its fruit.”

It is a responsibility of every Christian to be producing fruit for the kingdom of God.

Heart Condition

What does your heart say about you? Does the outflow of your heart express Jesus?

I really think your heart condition is related to how your eyes see and your ears hear:

“But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear. For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.” (Matthew 13:16-17)

Verses:

“Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.” (Mt. 13:13).

Are we seeking to know the truth? What is the desire of our heart? Is it to know Jesus, the truth, seek Him with all of our heart, to love Him with all of our heart?

What is your heart condition?

Part of the Family?

“For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother.” Matthew12:50.

Read this I can’t tell you how many times but this morning it hit me like a rock. We are not part of the family with Jesus unless we are doing the will of the Father. I’ve been meditating on this for a bit and am overwhelmed by this statement.

What is the will the Father? The Bible tells me.

How many are reading it to know? How many professing Christians don’t know? How many are seeking in prayer confirmation of the Word in them? How many are seeking to know, desiring to obey and are actually brothers, sisters, mothers of Christ.

Wow, conviction here. Am I seeking God’s will? Am I being obedient? Am I truly part of the family of God that Jesus is? Just thinking and pouring it out.

Going Through the Motions?

Genesis 34:7-32

Circumcision is a sign of the covenant between God and Abraham and His descendants. Jesus replaced that covenant with His blood He shed on the cross.

Here’s my heart — Hamor and his people get circumcised for their own selfish reasons (21-23). Many accept Jesus for what they can get out of it, not for the purpose of being transformed into the image of God. Result? What they thought they had — a bright future was their demise. Wrong motives, wrong reason.

Are we living for Jesus, doing and saying (existing) to bring Him glory? Or are we going through the motions?

I’d say it’s a time for prayer:

“Examine me, O Lord, and try me;
Test my mind and my heart.” Psalm 26:2
“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;” Psalm 139:23

Examine me, search me, try me. . .

“Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10

Amen.
