Gethsemane

Then Jesus *came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and *said to His disciples, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed.
Then He *said to them, “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.”
And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.” .  .  .
He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Your will be done.”
Matthew 26:36-39, 42 NASB1995‬

Jesus deeply grieved. Jesus humble. Jesus stressed. Jesus human. Jesus fell on His face and prayed to His Father. Jesus prayed wanting to obey the Father more than to run the other way. Jesus, willing to be the sacrifice for you. For me. Jesus paid the price. His life for those who believe.

Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God, was sacrificed. . .

🌹Then He *came to the disciples and *said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Behold, the hour is at hand and the Son of Man is being betrayed into the hands of sinners.
Get up, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!”
Matthew 26:45-46 NASB1995‬

The Last Passover

While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins. But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”
Matthew 26:26-29 NASB1995‬

Jesus blessed the bread. The bread represents His body that was broken. Crucified.
Jesus gave thanks for the cup. The cup that represents His blood poured out for many for the forgiveness of sin.
Jesus made a promise. A promise of hope for all believers and followers of His. The next time He drinks of the fruit of the vine will be when all believers are gathered in His Father’s kingdom.

Meditate this week on Jesus and His ultimate, sacrificial giving of Himself for you. On Friday Christians will celebrate the Lamb of God who sacrificed His life for them. As we celebrate let us remember Jesus died for all mankind. Pray for the lost who do not know the gift Jesus has for them. Take an opportunity to share the good news with someone this week. Invite them to a Good Friday service or share what this day is all about.

Lord, turn our hearts to You.

Holy Week – Good Friday

The day Jesus died.
Jesus’ crucifixion can be found in all four gospels:

Matthew 27:1-56; Mark 15:1-41; Luke 22:33-49; John 19:16-30
I recommend reading all four accounts.

Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus to put Him to death; and they bound Him, and led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate the governor. But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to put Jesus to death. Pilate *said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all *said, “Crucify Him!” Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified. Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour. About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
Matthew 27:1‭-‬2‭, ‬20‭, ‬22‭, ‬26‭, ‬45‭-‬46‭, ‬50 NASB

And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.
Luke 23:46 NASB

Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.
John 19:30 NASB

🌹But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 NASB
