If I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or if I command the locust to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among My people, and My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to the prayer offered in this place. 2 Chronicles 7:13-15 NASB
🌹Hear from heaven, God of all creation, our humble prayer of repentance. Forgive us our sin and wicked ways as we seek Your face. Heal our land Lord God. Be attentive to our prayers being offered up to You today. For Your glory and kingdom cause. Amen.
‘If they confess their iniquity and the iniquity of their forefathers, in their unfaithfulness which they committed against Me, and also in their acting with hostility against Me— I also was acting with hostility against them, to bring them into the land of their enemies—or if their uncircumcised heart becomes humbled so that they then make amends for their iniquity, then I will remember My covenant with Jacob, and I will remember also My covenant with Isaac, and My covenant with Abraham as well, and I will remember the land. Leviticus 26:40-42 NASB
🌹 Oh God, turn the hearts of Your people back to You so You may bless our nation with Your righteousness. Forgive us our unfaithfulness and acts of hostility toward You and Your word. As we humble ourselves before You, remember Your covenant through Jesus, our Savior, and forgive us.
Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness! You have relieved me in my distress; Be gracious to me and hear my prayer. O sons of men, how long will my honor become a reproach? How long will you love what is worthless and aim at deception? Selah. But know that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself; The Lord hears when I call to Him. Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, And trust in the Lord. Many are saying, “Who will show us any good?” Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O Lord! You have put gladness in my heart, More than when their grain and new wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety. Psalms 4:1-8 NASB
Blessed be the Lord, Because He has heard the voice of my supplication. The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart exults, And with my song I shall thank Him. The Lord is their strength, And He is a saving defense to His anointed. Save Your people and bless Your inheritance; Be their shepherd also, and carry them forever. Psalms 28:6-9 NASB
As the National Day of Prayer approaches on May 6, the next 5 days of devotions will be prayers.
To You, O Lord, I call; My rock, do not be deaf to me, For if You are silent to me, I will become like those who go down to the pit. Hear the voice of my supplications when I cry to You for help, When I lift up my hands toward Your holy sanctuary. Do not drag me away with the wicked And with those who work iniquity, Who speak peace with their neighbors, While evil is in their hearts. Requite them according to their work and according to the evil of their practices; Requite them according to the deeds of their hands; Repay them their recompense. Because they do not regard the works of the Lord Nor the deeds of His hands, He will tear them down and not build them up. Psalms 28:1-5 NASB
🌹 May we regard Your word diligently, applying it to our lives in obedience, praying for our neighbors and others around us to seek You while praising you for the work, You Lord God, are doing. In Jesus name, amen.
(God speaking to Moses) “Leave Me alone, that I may destroy them (the Israelites, God’s own chosen people) and wipe out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you (Moses) a nation mightier and greater than they.” Then I (Moses) fell down before the Lord like the first time, for forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water, because of all your sin whichyou (Israelites) had committed by doing what was evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger. The Lord was also angry enough with Aaron to destroy him; so I also prayed for Aaron at the same time. Deuteronomy 9:14, 18, 20
Oh that we would seek to have a heart for the lost and wayward. So much that we would willingly sacrifice our comfort – food, drink, sleep, and interceed (pray) on their behalf before the Lord. OR That we would revere our Holy God so much we would care about His name and reputation.
“So I fell down before the Lord for the forty days and nights, which I did because the Lord said He would destroy you. And I prayed to the Lord and said, ‘Lord God, do not destroy Your people, Your inheritance, whom You have redeemed through Your greatness, whom You have brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand! Otherwise, the people of the land from which You brought us will say, “Since the Lord was not able to bring them into the land which He had promised them, and since He hated them, He has brought them out to kill them in the wilderness!” Deuteronomy 9:25-26, 28 NASB
🌹In the name of and for God’s sake are you praying for the lost in your nation to the glory of God?
Then the Lord spoke to you from the midst of the fire; you heard the sound of words, but you saw no form— there was only a voice. Deuteronomy 4:12 NASB
We may not see the Lord God but His voice still speaks today. The God of the Old Testament is the same God of today. He does not change. He speaks to mankind.
You said, ‘Behold, the Lord our God has shown us His glory and His greatness, and we have heard His voice from the midst of the fire; we have seen today that God speaks with mankind, yet he lives. Deuteronomy 5:24 NASB
Like the nations that the Lord eliminates from you, so you shall perish, because you would not listen to the voice of the Lord your God. Deuteronomy 8:20 NASB
How do we hear the voice of God? I know He is able, still today, to speak through a burning bush, but today. . . He gave us His Word in written form; the gift of prayer to converse with Him; His Holy Spirit who speaks to our heart; His church for counsel and confirmation and circumstances in our lives (God is in control) to speak to us.
🌹Can you hear and are you listening to the voice of God?
Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, According as we have hoped in You. Psalms 33:21-22 NASB
Scripture is a great place to learn to pray. God’s timeless word that expands many generations. God’s words spoken back to Him from the mouth of His children.
Personalizing God’s word back to Him, the One who wrote it, is a good way to “write it on the tablet of your heart”.
Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. Proverbs 3:13 NASB
🌹Prayer: My soul waits for You, Lord; You are my help and my shield. My heart rejoices in You, God, because I trust in Your holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon me, according as I have hoped in You.
Now therefore, I pray You, if I have found favor in Your sight, let me know Your ways that I may know You, so that I may find favor in Your sight. Consider too, that this nation is Your people.” And He said, “My presence shall go with you, and I will give you rest.” Exodus 33:13-14 NASB
🌹For how then can it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we, I and Your people, may be distinguished from all the other people who are upon the face of the earth?” Exodus 33:16 NASB
Does God go with you? Is He going with your nation? Are you distinguished amongst the crowds because Jesus is in you?
Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.” Exodus 34:6-7 NASB
🌹Moses made haste to bow low toward the earth and worship. Exodus 34:8 NASB
Prayer: He said, “If now I have found favor in Your sight, O Lord, I pray, let the Lord go along in our midst, even though the people are so obstinate, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your own possession.” Exodus 34:9 NASB
