And his lord, moved with anger, handed him over to the torturers until he should repay all that was owed him.
Matthew 18:34 NASB
My heavenly Father will also do the same to you, if each of you does not forgive his brother from your heart.”
Matthew 18:35 NASB
A man was shown mercy for a debt owed to his lord but turned around and showed no mercy to a fellow slave who was indebted to him. This man was forgiven his debt and set free but turned around and sent his fellow slave to jail until he was repaid.
Jesus forgave the debt of sin I owed by His blood.
And according to the Law, one may almost say, all things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.
Hebrews 9:22 NASB
Jesus opened the door to salvation. Without forgiveness there is no salvation.
We aren’t to take God’s forgiveness and turn to our brother or sister in Christ and not forgive them. But we also are not to superficially forgive by lip service but are to forgive from the heart. Without true mercy we sentence ourselves to a prison of bitterness, anger, resentment, and separation from God.
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Luke 6:36 NASB
