Only One Lawgiver and Judge

Do not speak against one another, brethren. He who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks against the law and judges the law; but if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge of it.
There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the One who is able to save and to destroy; but who are you who judge your neighbor?
James 4:11-12 NASB1995

How easily it comes to us to point the finger, speak against, and judge a person for their words and/or actions without knowing the why of it. We all have been on both sides in this. We say or do something we regret and have been judged for it.

“Do not judge so that you will not be judged.
Matthew 7:1 NASB1995

Do not complain, brethren, against one another, so that you yourselves may not be judged; behold, the Judge is standing right at the door.
James 5:9 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.5.9.NASB1995

For the Lord is our judge, The Lord is our lawgiver, The Lord is our king; He will save us—
Isaiah 33:22 NASB1995

But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.
James 1:22 NASB1995

If, however, you are fulfilling the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing well.
James 2:8 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.2.8.NASB1995

🌹If God is our Judge and the Judge of all His Creation, who are we to judge anyone? Especially a brother or sister. We are to love one another in obedience to the royal law.

Continually Seeking Him,

  1. I totally agree with you. You in turn have challenged me and blessed me.
I found a lot of the Scripture you found the on web site. Thank you for introducing me to that sight. It will be another helpful resource for me.
I have so enjoyed this time of sharing God’s word with you.
I will be praying for you. 🙏
Thanks again for this time of insight you have shared with me.

  2. Amen, yet at times when there is evidence of grave error or deception underway, or even tremendous harm taking place within the sacred realm, (as can happen in a fallen world and with sinners), we must sometimes speak up to defend what is God’s way…truth…and life. True, we should not stand as “judge”, leaving the final judgement to the Lord, but we should remember that Deborah was appointed a judge of Israel, and sometimes we too must stand as she did in a place of justice and speak up against unrighteousness and sin, against hypocrisy, and against the infiltration of darkness and evil influences within the Kingdom that are harming His righteous cause. For we know we will one day rule and reign with Him, and who knows how what we learn and practise now in the earthly realm will be revealed more valuable to us in the heavenly one 🙏🏼✝️❤️Lots of good food for thought and prayer in these Scriptures.

    • Amen. Hoping this devotion makes us think and examine.
I had a verse that I didn’t use but now I can’t seem to find it but said something like if you are to judge, you judge according to God’s Word.
Thank you, Susan, for your response. The feedback helps me grow. Have a blessed day.

      • Yes. It is all about continuing to love Him more and to grow more in the life of His Word and the Holy Spirit’s power. We must hate sin but love the sinner, just as Jesus did, just as He loves us. Sometimes we may face tough challenges that require us to gain more wisdom…other times He teaches us to be more humble and gentle, and yet other times we may find ourselves turning over a few tables as He did in the Temple… 🙏🏼🌸❤️ You got me thinking as I have had some recent incidents at work and out and about where I know God wanted me to repent of judging, but then He reminded me to be as wise as a serpent and gentle as a dove 🕊️ Our Father is so kind and patient. Here’s a few scriptures on judging I tracked down:
