Living or Dying?

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,
Deuteronomy 30:19 NASB

Life and blessing or death and curses. Does that seem to be an easy choice? If it were, why are so many choosing death and curses? Could it be self-centered pride? “I can do life myself.”

Let’s take a look at what life is:

by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
Deuteronomy 30:20 NASB

The promised land awaited the Israelites. The promised land awaits those today who humbly surrender to God’s eternal love, obedience to His Word, and holding fast to Him. This is life!

1. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Deuteronomy 6:5 NASB
2. All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God:
Deuteronomy 28:2 NASB
3. You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name.
Deuteronomy 10:20 NASB

🌹for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’
Acts 17:28 NASB

Wholly Devoted

He (Hezekiah) did right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father David had done.
2 Kings 18:3 NASB

he did what was good, right and true before the Lord his God.
2 Chronicles 31:20b NASB

Wouldn’t it be something if we had the same reputation that Hezekiah, king of Judah, had? Doing right in the sight of our Lord? Doing what was good, right and true before the Lord?

When we belong to God there are expectations. After all we are the temple of the Holy Spirit who resides in us.

So how did Hezekiah do it?

He trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel; so that after him there was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among those who were before him. For he clung to the Lord; he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the Lord had commanded Moses.
2 Kings 18:5‭-‬6 NASB

Hezekiah obeyed.

You shall follow the Lord your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him.
Deuteronomy 13:4 NASB

Hezekiah surrendered his life to God.

Before him there was no king like him who turned to the Lord with all his heart and with all his soul and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; nor did any like him arise after him.
2 Kings 23:25 NASB

🌹Let your heart therefore be wholly devoted to the Lord our God, to walk in His statutes and to keep His commandments, as at this day.”
1 Kings 8:61 NASB

Moving Forward or Backward?

For as the waistband clings to the waist of a man, so I made the whole household of Israel and the whole household of Judah cling to Me,’ declares the Lord, ‘that they might be for Me a people, for renown, for praise and for glory; . . .
Jeremiah 13:11 NASB

The people whom I formed for Myself Will declare My praise.
Isaiah 43:21 NASB

but they did not listen.’
Jeremiah 13:11 NASB continued

Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward.
Jeremiah 7:24 NASB

🌹Are you moving forward in the Lord? Surrender your life to God. Listen, obey, and praise His glory. For this you were created.

In The Sight of the Lord

He did right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father David had done. 2 Kings 18:3‭ NASB
For he clung to the Lord; he did not depart from following Him, but kept His commandments, which the Lord had commanded Moses. 2 Kings 18:5‭-‬6 NASB

God used King David years beyond his time on earth. King Hezekiah, whom we read about yesterday, was influenced by the example of David. He trusted in the Lord. He clung to the Lord.
(clung: adhered to, hold tight as embracing, to cleve, remain close, attached).

🌹What impact are you making in the world today? Will you be remembered for your relationship with the Holy God? Will your example have others clinging to the Lord, not departing from following Him and keeping His commandments?

You shall follow the Lord your God and fear Him; and you shall keep His commandments, listen to His voice, serve Him, and cling to Him. Deuteronomy 13:4

It’s a command, not an option.
