Sanctuary of The Holy Spirit

Or do you think that the Scripture speaks to no purpose: “He jealously desires the Spirit which He has made to dwell in us”?
James 4:5 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.4.5.NASB1995

Or do you not know that your body is a temple (sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
1 Corinthians 6:19 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1co.6.19.NASB1995

What an awesome gift we, who have the Holy Spirit of God dwelling in us, have to be called His children. The Holy Spirit of promise who works in us to bring honor and glory to our God as we walk this earth fulfilling His purpose through us.

. . . For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
2 Corinthians 6:16b NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2co.6.16.NASB1995

🌹And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,” Says the Lord Almighty.

The Mightiest God!

Do you not know what I (Sennacherib) and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands able at all to deliver their land from my hand? Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed who could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you from my hand?

Now therefore, do not let Hezekiah deceive you or mislead you like this, and do not believe him, for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people from my hand or from the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you from my hand?’ ”
2 Chronicles 32:13-15 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2ch.32.13-15.NASB1995

They spoke of the God of Jerusalem as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, the work of men’s hands.
2 Chronicles 32:19 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2ch.32.19.NASB1995

But King Hezekiah and Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed about this and cried out to heaven.
2 Chronicles 32:20 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2ch.32.20.NASB1995

The power of prayer.

And the Lord sent an angel who destroyed every mighty warrior, commander and officer in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned in shame to his own land. And when he had entered the temple of his god, some of his own children killed him there with the sword.
2 Chronicles 32:21 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2ch.32.21.NASB1995

Pride comes before the fall.

So the Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.

The Temple

For the disobedience of King David, God sent a plague upon the land.

And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was about to destroy it, the Lord saw and was sorry over the calamity, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough; now relax your hand.” And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan (Araunah) the Jebusite.
Chronicles 21:15 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1ch.21.15.NASB1995

Ornan the Jebusite’s threshing floor played an important site in history. An angel of the Lord was standing on this site ready to pour out destruction on Jerusalem. But God . . . in His mercy relented of the destruction to Jerusalem.

Then David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel who was striking down the people, and said, “Behold, it is I who have sinned, and it is I who have done wrong; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let Your hand be against me and against my father’s house.”
2 Samuel 24:17 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2sa.24.17.NASB1995

Then the angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up and build an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Chronicles 21:18 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1ch.21.18.NASB1995

David went up according to the word of Gad, just as the Lord had commanded.

Araunah (Ornan) looked down and saw the king and his servants crossing over toward him; and Araunah (Ornan) went out and bowed his face to the ground before the king. Then Araunah (Ornan) said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” And David said, “To buy the threshing floor from you, in order to build an altar to the Lord, that the plague may be held back from the people.” Araunah (Ornan) said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what is good in his sight. Look, the oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood. Everything, O king, Araunah (Ornan) gives to the king.” And Araunah (Ornan) said to the king, “May the Lord your God accept you.”
However, the king said to Araunah (Ornan), “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price, for I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God which cost me nothing.”
2 Samuel 24:19-24a NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2sa.24.19-24.NASB1995

There is a price to be paid for sin, no matter your stature in life. Jesus paid for our sin.

So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Thus the Lord was moved by prayer for the land, and the plague was held back from Israel.
2 Samuel 24:24b-25 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2sa.24.24-25.NASB1995

This took place on the same site where

. . . Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan (Araunah) the Jebusite.
Chronicles 3:1 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2ch.3.1.NASB1995

God has a plan. We may not know it but need to trust in His leading.

🌹At the site of God’s mercy and Solomon’s repentance, the temple of the Lord God was built.

Is God Still Speaking?

“The Spirit of the Lord spoke by me, And His word was on my tongue.
2 Samuel 23:2 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/2sa.23.2.NASB1995

The Holy Spirit is a gift given to the those saved in Christ Jesus. So the saved in Christ will be filled with joy and peace. The Holy Spirit speaks in and through the surrendered believer.
Acts 2:38/Romans 15:13/Mark 13:11

And He lives in you, believer.

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
1 Corinthians 6:19 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/1co.6.19.NASB1995

The Holy Spirit is our helper.

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
John 14:26 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/jhn.14.26.NASB1995

“All that I have said to you” He will bring to remembrance. This is where the Bible plays a very, very important part in our walk with the Lord. We need to read – eat, digest – the Word of God so the Holy Spirit who lives in us will bring to remembrance His holy word when we need to speak it. The Spirit of God spoke and His word was on my tongue.

Is the Spirit of the Lord speaking through you?

🌹for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.”

Temple Dwelling

Okay, I could be stretching this a bit but. . .
Are we who confess Jesus as the risen Messiah, the temple of the Holy Spirit? Is not the Holy Spirit God?

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?
1 Corinthians 6:19 NASB

We have the glory of God residing in us and yet we walk around with glum faces, walking as if we are lost, stressed to the max . . . need I go on?

If this is our demeanor then we should ask, as David did:

One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty (delightfulness) of the Lord And to meditate (inquire) in His temple.
Psalms 27:4 NASB

With salvation comes our eternal abiding with our God. Are we seeking to dwell with the Lord in our very being? Do we delight in the Lord God and seek the Word as we meditate on the word?

For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 6:20 NASB

🌹O Lord, I love the habitation of Your house And the place where Your glory dwells.
Psalms 26:8 NASB

God bless your day and weekend!

Holy Week – Monday

Jesus entered Jerusalem triumphantly. . .

On the next day, when they had left Bethany, He became hungry. Seeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And His disciples were listening.
Then they came to Jerusalem. And He entered the temple and began to drive out those who were buying and selling in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who were selling doves; and He would not permit anyone to carry merchandise through the temple. And He began to teach and say to them, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a robbers’ den.” The chief priests and the scribes heard this, and began seeking how to destroy Him; for they were afraid of Him, for the whole crowd was astonished at His teaching. When evening came, they would go out of the city.
Mark 11:12‭-‬19 NASB

The Temple. A place to commune with God. A sacred holy place of worship. What had happened? Commercialism. Neglect. No longer a house of prayer, a place to commune and worship God. It had become a “den of theives”. A money-making place of business.
The Temple. Where God resides, takes up residence. Today, we believers are the Temple of God. What condition is your house in?

🌹God, today, as we observe Holy Monday, may our hearts turn to the worship of Jesus, our Savior. Forgive us for the condition of Your Temple as we repent of any dishonor to You, that is going on in us, Your Temple. Amen

Home of The Holy Spirit

The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; Acts 17:24‭-‬25 NASB1995

God, You are the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread out the earth and its offspring (vegetation), who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it, the God who made the world and all things in it! Behold, to You, God, belong heaven and the highest heavens, the earth and all that is in it. Who is able to build a house for You, for the heavens and the highest heavens cannot contain You? And yet You dwell in the believer! For we are the temple of the living God; just as You, God, have said, “I will dwell in them and walk among them; And I will be their God, and they shall be My people”. Help me God to remember that I am Your temple, the temple of the Holy Spirit of God, dwelling in me, whom you have given me, God, and that I am not my own. Thank You God for Your Spirit within me who will cause me to walk in Your statutes, and guide me to be careful to observe Your ordinances. To You be the glory, God, in and through me for Your will to be done. In the perfect name of Jesus I pray, amen.  Isaiah 42:5/Deuteronomy 10:14/2 Chronicles 2:6a/2 Corinthians 6:16/1 Corinthians 3:16/1 Corinthians 6:19/Ezekiel 36:27 NASB

🌹However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. Romans 8:9 NASB

The Holiness in Me

Do I have any holiness in me?

For I am the Lord who brought you up from the land of Egypt to be your God; thus you shall be holy, for I am holy.'”
Leviticus 11:45 NASB

We are to be holy as God is holy. So how does that happen? Can I just be holy because God is holy?

In the Old Testament Holy God resided in the temple. In the Holy of Holies. It was a sanctified, cleansed, holy area of the temple.

In the New Testament we are the temple where the Holy God resides now. In the heart where God has cleansed us by the blood of Christ, is sanctifying us everyday, where holiness, His holiness resides.

How can you receive this holiness?

Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:38 NASB

A repentant heart baptized in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sin is the necessary step to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”
Mark 1:8 NASB

And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
John 20:22 NASB

and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.
Ephesians 4:24 NASB

🌹 Jesus is the holiness in me.

Live Holy

For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

“I will live with them
and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they will be my people.”

Therefore,

“Come out from them
and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
and I will receive you.”

And,

“I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”
2 Corinthians 6:16b-18 (NIV)

Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. — 2 Corinthians 7:1 (NIV)

For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. – 1 Thessalonians 4:7 (NIV)
But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; — 1 Peter 1:15 (NIV)
for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” — 1 Peter 1:16 (NIV)

Why should we be holy? If for no other reason it should be out of reverence for God. He is worthy. He deserves it. Seek to please the Lord in all you do by being holy and pure. Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him. — 2 Corinthians 5:9

Keep practicing until you are more and more like Jesus. Keep seeking.

Continually seeking Him,

Sharon
