O Ephraim, what more have I to do with idols? It is I who answer and look after you. I am like a luxuriant cypress; From Me comes your fruit. Whoever is wise, let him understand these things; Whoever is discerning, let him know them. For the ways of the Lord are right, And the righteous will walk in them, But transgressors will stumble in them. Hosea 14:8-9 NASB
🌹🙏 The works of Your hands are truth and justice; All Your precepts are sure. They are upheld forever and ever; They are performed in truth and uprightness. The way of the righteous is smooth; O Upright One, make the path of the righteous level. Psalms 111:7-8 NASB/Isaiah 26:7 NASB
“These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. John 14:25-26 NASB
Here is Jesus speaking to His disciples while abiding with them, teaching, assuring, leading. But Jesus was about to be crucified so He would no longer be abiding with them. But out of His great love and purpose the Father would not desert them. He sent the Holy Spirit to abide in them.
Jesus spoke the word to the disciples. Disciples today have those words in the Bible. As the disciples had to walk and listen to Jesus, we have to walk with God and listen when we read the Bible. Ever wonder why you don’t hear God? Are you reading His word?
And the greatest part of reading and listening to God’s word is that when we need discernment, or to share the gospel the Holy Spirit will bring it to mind what to say because He abides in us. Hallelujah!!!
🌹 Read and listen. Trust and obey. God will use you.
The words of wise men are like goads, and masters of these collections are like well-driven nails; they are given by one Shepherd. But beyond this, my son, be warned: the writing of many books is endless, and excessive devotion to books is wearying to the body. The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. Ecclesiastes 12:11-13 NASB
God uses wise people to prod others to seek Him. He is the master of their works. Hopefully this is true. There are many Christian writers out there.
Christian books everywhere. “The writing of many books is endless”. Have you ever stood in a Christian Bookstore and gazed at book after book after book and feel exhausted in your search?
How do you know what book to choose?
Solomon advises: “fear God and keep His commandments”. Why? Because they apply to all people. A book that I read may be just what I need but it will not be what you need. The Bible is what we all need. It is written for all people.
The Bible should also be first choice so that in the reading of other books you have discernment as to what is truth. Just because a book is labeled “Christian” does not mean that it holds to the truth of the word of God.
Bottom line, “fear God and keep His commandments”. If you’re not reading the Bible you don’t know His commandments nor the God who wrote it.
🌹Make daily reading and meditation upon the Word of God a priority. You will not be disappointed.
