Are We Seeing, Hearing & Obeying?

Woe to her who is rebellious and defiled, The tyrannical city! She heeded no voice, She accepted no instruction. She did not trust in the Lord, She did not draw near to her God.
Zephaniah 3:1-2 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/zep.3.1-2.NASB1995

But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.’
Jeremiah 7:23 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jer.7.23.NASB1995

But this people has a stubborn and rebellious heart; They have turned aside and departed.
Jeremiah 5:23 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jer.5.23.NASB1995

. . . they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in their own counsels and in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward.
Jeremiah 7:24 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jer.7.24.NASB1995

O Lord, do not Your eyes look for truth? You have smitten them, But they did not weaken; You have consumed them, But they refused to take correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to repent.
Jeremiah 5:3 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jer.5.3.NASB1995

Because they did not believe in God And did not trust in His salvation.
Psalms 78:22 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.78.22.NASB1995

My prayer is that all nations on earth would seek, obey, and accept correction from the Lord God.

You shall say to them, ‘This is the nation that did not obey the voice of the Lord their God or accept correction; truth has perished and has been cut off from their mouth.
Jeremiah 7:28 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jer.7.28.NASB1995

🌹But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord God my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works.

Prayer of Confession

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; according to the abundance of Your compassion, blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned, and done what is evil in Your sight, so that You are justified when you speak, and blameless when You pass judgment.
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Behold, You desire truth in the inward being, and in my secret heart You will teach me wisdom.
Psalms 51:1-6 MEV
https://bible.com/bible/1171/psa.51.1-6.MEV

🌹Thank You God for Your mercy and compassion upon me.
Because You have washed me, I am cleansed from my sin.
Teach me wisdom Lord God that my inward being would desire truth. Your truth. Help me to walk in Your truth for Your glory. Amen. 🙏

Portrait 6, Living A New Life

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance,
1 Peter 1:14 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1pe.1.14.NASB1995

Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
1 Peter 4:1-2 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1pe.4.1-2.NASB1995

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Romans 12:1-2 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/rom.12.1-2.NASB1995

🌹if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus, that, in reference to your former manner of life, you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit, and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new self, which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Dwell on The Attributes of God

Finally, brethren, whatever is of good repute,¹ . . . Dwell on these things.
Philippians 4:8f NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/php.4.8.NASB1995

¹Of good repute: conscientious, distinguished, ethical, honest, illustrious, law-abiding, noble, principled, reliable, respectable, righteous, sincere, straightforward, trustworthy, virtuous.
https://Thesaurus.com

Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good repute In the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:3-6 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/pro.3.3-6.NASB1995

But it is good always to be eagerly sought in a commendable manner, and not only when I am present with you.
Galatians 4:18 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/gal.4.18.NASB1995

Praise God today for the ability, by the power of His Holy Spirit living in us, to display His attributes to others through ourselves. Let us look for ‘good repute’ and praise God for He is worthy.

🌹Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

Dwell on What is True

Finally, brethren, whatever is true, . . .
Philippians 4:8a NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/php.4.8.NASB1995

“Whatever is true.” What is true? How do we assess what is true? I believe we need to look to the One who is true.

The Lord is the true God; He is the living God and the everlasting King. . .¹  There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man.²  He who has received His testimony has set his seal to this, that God is true.³
Jeremiah 10:10/John 1:9/John 3:33 NASB1995

And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
1 John 5:20 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1jn.5.20.NASB1995

🌹. . . if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.

Love Covers . . .

My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
James 5:19-20 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.5.19-20.NASB1995

Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted.
Galatians 6:1 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/gal.6.1.NASB1995

“If your brother sins , go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother.
Matthew 18:15 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.18.15.NASB1995

Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.

P.S. Thank you to all who have taken this journey with me through the book of James. I barely touched the surface of the deepness of this book. I learned a lot and hope you did too.

Trustworthy?

But above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or with any other oath; but your yes is to be yes, and your no, no, so that you may not fall under judgment.
James 5:12 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.5.12.NASB1995

Can we be trusted to speak truth? Is our Yes, yes; our No, no?

But I (Jesus) say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.
🌹But let your statement be, ‘Yes, yes’ or ‘No, no’; anything beyond these is of evil.

My Exceeding Joy

O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your dwelling places. Then I will go to the altar of God, To God my exceeding joy; And upon the lyre I shall praise You, O God, my God.
Psalms 43:3-4 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.43.3-4.NASB1995

🌹May God be your exceeding joy as you take time to dwell with Him, causing your heart to overflow with praise! Then let the light of His truth lead you through your day.

To Live = Christ

As I share some of my takeaways from the Priority Conference I attended this past weekend, I hope they will resonate with you also.

First Speaker:

Unity of the Church demonstrates the unity of Christ and the Father and us.

From my pride to pride in Christ.

– Who’s glory do I seek?
– Who’s “well done” am I looking for?
– Am I more concerned about being right or about representing truth, being Christ-like?
– Will the last argument I have matter when I stand before God? Does it make a difference in eternity?

🌹For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.
Philippians 1:21 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/php.1.21.NASB1995

To live is Christ, to die is gain.
To live = Christ!

For their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they themselves also may be sanctified in truth.
John 17:19 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jhn.17.19.NASB1995

Sanctified by Jesus’ great love . . .

Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13 NASB1995

Made clean by the Word . . .

You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
John 15:3 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jhn.15.3.NASB1995

which has come to you, just as in all the world also it is constantly bearing fruit and increasing, even as it has been doing in you also since the day you heard of it and understood the grace of God in truth;
Colossians 1:6 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/col.1.6.NASB1995

🌹We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
