Seek, Wait, Hope

“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I have hope in Him.” The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the person who seeks Him. — Lamentations 3:24-25

“The Lord is my portion.” He is my inheritance. He is all I need. He is everything I could ever want or need in this life and especially in the next. For without Him I would never experience eternal life with Him. Because He is all I will ever need I hope in Him. My soul is confident to say, “I have hope in Him”.

God’s eye is on those who hope for His lovingkindness, on those who fear Him. (Ps. 33:18) To have God’s eye on you holds so many promises and peace. To revere His holiness and purity. To revel in His love and blessings. To have peace in His protection and care. Those are for those who hope in Him.

God is good to those who wait on Him. As in yesterday’s devotion, we hear from Him when we take the time to wait on the Lord. He is good to us when we wait on Him. He wants to give us blessings, guide us in our day, help us on our journey of life to fulfill His purpose for us. All those are good things. He is good to those who wait for Him. Wait for His triumphant return. Hope.

While we wait we can seek His face. Longing for the Lord my soul diligently seeks Him. This too is good. Seek the Lord and His strength, seek His face continually (Ps. 105:4). Wait on Him. Hope in Him.

Continually seeking Him,

At night my soul longs for You, Indeed, my spirit within me seeks You diligently; For when the earth experiences Your judgments The inhabitants of the world learn righteousness. Isaiah 26:9

Overflowing Hope

May God, the source of hope, fill you with joy and peace through your faith in him. Then you will overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. — Romans 15:13(GW)

Are you lacking hope? Are you missing the source? Do you know Jesus as your personal Savior and Lord?

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. — John 3:16-17 Jesus is our Savior, the giver of eternal life, to everyone who believes in Him.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, — 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 Belief that Jesus died for our sins, was buried and God raised Him from death.

That belief is faith. Through our continued living faith, God fills us with joy and peace. Is your life filled with joy and peace? Most faces I see and pass by daily don’t show it, so I wonder how many people really are experiencing joy and peace in their lives. That raises two thoughts in my mind. The first, do they know Jesus? Really know Him? Second, am I living out my faith that others can see it?

If we are living our faith out with joy and peace then we should be overflowing with hope by the living power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. What would you say is the level of hope in our world today? Is that overflowing hope present in our lives? Is it impacting our corner of the world? What can we do to bring hope to the hopeless?

Let us evaluate our faith. Let us seek Jesus through faith and experience the joy and peace that will, by the power of the Holy Spirit, overflow our lives with hope for ourselves and others.

Living Hope

In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope. But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ. — Ephesians 2:12-13 (NLT)

Living in this world without God is living a life without hope. We no longer need to live apart from Christ. We have been united with Christ, brought near to Him through His shed blood.

At one time all of us were alienated and hostile in mind, engaged in evil deeds; walking according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. We did not know God, we were slaves to those which by nature are no gods.

We are a new creation. We have hope of salvation and eternal life. We also have hope that God is doing a good work in us. We have the hope of His promise for us and our children and for all who are far off. God is calling all to repentance (a change of heart and mind with regret or remorse over sin that results in a change of purpose and life). He is calling us to a warm intimate relationship, a relationship filled with hope, a living hope.

Do you need hope? Then it is time to hope in Jesus Christ. Seek Him today while He may be found.

Continually seeking Him,

Sharon

For the promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” — Acts 2:39

Godliness Holds Promise

for bodily discipline is only of little profit, but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. — 1 Timothy 4:8

Bodily discipline can make you healthier, stronger, more flexible, thinner, and/or feel better overall. BUT, no matter how disciplined you are physically, it will not get you to heaven. Physical activity relieves stress, refreshes the mind and gets the blood pumping which is great. BUT, it holds no promise for the life to come.

It’s not about quitting exercise and spending all our time seeking godliness. Just like living for Jesus is living Christ in all we do it is practicing godliness in all we do. Over the last year and a half I started exercising and lost 65 pounds. During this time I drew closer and closer to the Lord. How? When I took my 2-4 mile walks I prayed. I communed with God. I sought godliness from the Master of godliness. I experienced (and still do) what it must have been like for Adam and Eve or Elijah.

I benefited from my walks because I felt better and lost weight but it does not compare to the awesome walk I am having with the Almighty God of the universe!!!! My healthier lifestyle just adds to the ability I now have to serve Him more diligently.

My body is more physically disciplined now but it will still die one day. My walk with God is beneficial for me now and will continue into eternity. I envision talking with God as Elijah did and walk right into heaven. Now that holds promise for the life to come.
