Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. – Genesis 3:7
The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife, and clothed them. – Genesis 3:21
Adam and Eve at the realization of their nakedness, due to sin (disobedience to God), clothed themselves in fig leaves. The leaves would not have lasted long, since removing them from the vine would cause them to wilt, turn brown and deteriorate. The uselessness of our trying to cover up our sin.
But God . . . clothed Adam and Eve in animal skins. (God’s ways are always better). I thank Dr. Steve Thompson for pointing out last Wednesday night, that God sacrificed the first animal. The skins that Adam and Eve were clothed in came from an animal sacrificed because of sin. God sacrificed an animal in the Garden and also sacrificed His Son for the sins of all mankind.
From beginning to end God demonstrates his love for his creation — man and woman.
How about making 2017 the year you turn from sin to God? He made the provision through His Son, Jesus Christ. Today! Pray – asking forgiveness for your sin and your need for a Savior. Believe – Jesus died for you, was buried and arose from the dead three days later. Confess – Jesus as Lord! Live – as if He is your Lord.
I work for a Christian Bookstore chain and have the opportunity of meeting so many different people from all walks of life. I have been blessed by so many – hearing their stories, adventures, and heart.
The other day I had such a blessing.
A mother comes in with her soon to be six year-old daughter on her hip. Her daughter is a down-syndrome child. They were there to buy a Bible for her birthday. I was the one blessed to help with that task. As Mom and I were talking, the girl reaches out for me to hold her. With permission I got to hold this adorable little one as she clung to my neck with her arms and waist with her legs. When it came time for them to leave Mom had to pry her from me but not before a kiss on the cheek given by this loving child. She totally made my day.
I share this story because, I wondered, after they left why she was so drawn to me. She had no apprehension. Did she see something in me that made her feel safe . . . comfortable . . . loved? Did she see Jesus in me? I like to think that is what she saw.
As in water face reflects face, So the heart of man reflects man. — Proverbs 27:19
“But He knows the way I take; When He has tried me, I shall come forth as gold. 11 “My foot has held fast to His path; I have kept His way and not turned aside. 12 “I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than mynecessary food. — Job 23:10-12
How about you? Can you say that?
so that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold whichis perishable, even though tested by fire, may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ; — 1 Peter 1:7
Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place? — Psalm 24:3
My initial response to this is, “not me”. I am but a filthy rag, even on a good day compared to the Lord God Almighty and His pure holiness. I have never, that I can recall, imagined myself standing before God. I am always on my knees in humble adoration if not lying flat on my face before Him.
But God. . .
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,so that in the ages to come He might show the surpassing riches of His grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them. — Ephesians 2:4-10
But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. — Ephesians 2:13
Only through Jesus Christ and Him alone may I ascend into the hill of the Lord and stand in His holy place. How about you? Are you ready to accept God’s grace through Jesus Christ so you can ascend and stand in confidence before the Creator of you?
and I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective through theknowledge of every good thing which is in you for Christ’s sake. — Philemon 1:6
How is your walk of faith? Are you growing so as to be effective for the sake of Christ? Prayer is fellowship with God which is necessary to see things from God’s perspective, humble us, and to surrender our lives for His purpose.
Fellowship of faith is fellowship with other believers so as to encourage, be encouraged and to sharpen and be sharpened. Along with that is accountability.
Fellowship of faith is filling our mind and hearts with the Word of God. It teaches us His way and allows us to serve in a manner worthy of our Lord by the Holy Spirit’s guidance and bringing to remembrance what we have studied.
Again, how is your faith? “I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective through the knowledge of every good thing which is in you for Christ’s sake”.
because I hear of your love and of the faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints; — Philemon 1:5
Are others aware of your faith in the Lord Jesus? Do others see your love for the saints (believers, followers of Christ)? I’m speaking of places outside the walls of the church. Is God’s love and your faith transparent? The world needs you to be.
But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. — Ephesians 4:7
For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among younot to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. — Romans 12:3
So what are you doing with the grace and faith you have been given?
Whoever speaks, is to do soas one who is speaking the utterances of God; whoever serves is to do so as one who is serving by the strength which God supplies; so that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belongs the glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. — 1 Peter 4:11
