Mother Mary (Luke 1-2:22)

And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord.”

And Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave; For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.
Luke 1:45-48 NASB1995‬

Mary. The Mother of Jesus. Just an ordinary girl chosen by God to fulfill God’s redemptive plan. She humbly took on this role of Mother to Jesus.

The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end.”
Luke 1:30-33 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/luk.1.30-33.NASB1995

Mary rejoiced at the birth of her son. She treasured the years she had raising Him.

And He (Jesus) went down with them and came to Nazareth, and He continued in subjection to them; and His mother treasured all these things in her heart.
Luke 2:51 NASB1995‬

Mary knew Jesus came for a purpose and faced the death of her firstborn son. Being a mother is hard work but . . .

🌹. . . we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

By One Man

As Resurrection Sunday approaches, the Scriptures can prepare our heart as we reflect on what a tremendous impact this event has on all mankind.

For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.
1 Corinthians 15:21 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/1co.15.21.NASB1995

Sin entered the world in the Garden of Eden through the disobedience of one man. It continues to be a threat to mankind today.
‭‭
Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
James 1:15 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.1.15.NASB1995

‭‭Sin brings about death. Eternal, forever dying death.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23 NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/rom.6.23.NASB1995

But God. . . !!!

Jesus came as a man to earth. Through Him, this one man, comes eternal life for all who believe.

Do you believe?

30 Days of Thanks – D21

Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His godly ones.
Psalms‬ ‭116:15‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.116.15.NASB1995

‭‭Why do you suppose God would consider the death of His godly ones as precious?

Does God not rejoice at the salvation of His children, His creation?

He will rescue (redeem) their life (soul) from oppression and violence, And their blood will be precious in his sight;
Psalms‬ ‭72:14‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.72.14.NASB1995

‭‭Even though we have received God’s redemption and our eternity from oppression and violence, we still face oppression and violence this side of heaven. But . . . One day when our mortal bodies are no more, we will receive full all God has promised to His own. How precious in the sight of God, is the death of His godly ones.

I’m saddened by those who die without Jesus. What a contrast when compared to the death of a godly saint who believed and trusted God. I am very thankful to God for the ability to rejoice at a believer’s celebration of life because they continue to live. Oh how precious.

Dedicated to Joyce and Noel.

30 Days of Thanks – D18

Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men!
For He has satisfied the thirsty soul, And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.
There were those who dwelt in darkness and in the shadow of death, Prisoners in misery and chains, Because they had rebelled against the words of God And spurned the counsel of the Most High. Therefore He humbled their heart with labor; They stumbled and there was none to help. Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death And broke their bands apart.
Psalms‬ ‭107:8‭-‬14‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.107.8.NASB1995

Thank You, Lord, for satisfying my thirsty soul and filling my hungry soul with what is good!! Humble my soul, Lord. You have removed my chains and brought me out of darkness into Your glorious light! Thank You for saving me from the shadow of death. Glory to Your name! Thank You!!

Living or Dying?

I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants,
Deuteronomy 30:19 NASB

Life and blessing or death and curses. Does that seem to be an easy choice? If it were, why are so many choosing death and curses? Could it be self-centered pride? “I can do life myself.”

Let’s take a look at what life is:

by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
Deuteronomy 30:20 NASB

The promised land awaited the Israelites. The promised land awaits those today who humbly surrender to God’s eternal love, obedience to His Word, and holding fast to Him. This is life!

1. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
Deuteronomy 6:5 NASB
2. All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God:
Deuteronomy 28:2 NASB
3. You shall fear the Lord your God; you shall serve Him and cling to Him, and you shall swear by His name.
Deuteronomy 10:20 NASB

🌹for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said, ‘For we also are His children.’
Acts 17:28 NASB

Are you living or dying?

Who is God?

For who is God, but the Lord?
And who is a rock, except our God,
Psalms 18:31 NASB

I am the Lord, and there is no other; Besides Me there is no God.
Isaiah 45:5a NASB

See now that I, I am He, And there is no god besides Me; It is I who put to death and give life. I have wounded and it is I who heal, And there is no one who can deliver from My hand.
Deuteronomy 32:39 NASB

Before Me there was no God formed, And there will be none after Me.
Isaiah 43:10c NASB

‘I, the Lord, am the first, and with the last. I am He.’ ”
Isaiah 41:4b NASB

Do you believe? I do!

There is no one holy like You, Lord! Indeed, there is no one besides You. There is no rock like You, God. I shall praise You forever. Glory to Your name, amen.
1 Samuel 2:2 NASB

🌹There is no one like You among the gods, O Lord, Nor are there any works like Yours. All nations whom You have made shall come and worship before You, O Lord, And they shall glorify Your name. For You are great and do wondrous deeds; You alone are God.
Psalms 86:8‭-‬10 NASB

God, Deliverer

Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears our burden, The God who is our salvation. Selah.
God is to us a God of deliverances; And to God the Lord belong escapes from death.
Psalms 68:19‭-20 NASB

God, my Lord, in whom I am tremendously blessed. I thank You that I can cast my burdens upon You, my Lord, and You will sustain me. You will never allow Your righteous ones to be shaken! Hallelujah!!
Even to my old age You will be the same, and even to my graying years You will bear me! God, You have made me, and You will carry me; for You are my Deliverer who will bear me and deliver me.
I see that You are He, the only true God, and there is no god besides You. It is You who put to death and You who give life. You have wounded and it is You who heal, and there is no one who can deliver from Your hand. You are Almighty God!
God, redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, and receive me.
For it is You alone who has delivered my soul from death, indeed my feet from stumbling, so that I may walk before You, God, in the light of the living. Thank You God for Jesus, my salvation, my life in You. Glory to Your name!!! Amen.
Psalm 55:22/Isaiah 46:4/Deuteronomy 32:39/Psalm 49:15/Psalm 56:13 NASB

My hope and prayer is that all who read this may come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ. To know what love He had for His creation that He was willing to sacrifice His life so you could walk before God in the light of the living.

🌹We have sufferings now, but these are nothing compared to the great glory that will be given to us.

Confident Boldness Through Christ

For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.”
John 12:49‭-‬50 NASB

What an example Jesus sets for us. He speaks what the Father speaks and what the Father speaks is eternal life.

We also can have such confidence through . . .

Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and confident access through faith in Him, to God
Eph. 3:11b-12

Such confidence we have through Christ toward God. Not that we are adequate in ourselves to consider anything as coming from ourselves, but our adequacy is from God, who also made us adequate as servants of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
2 Corinthians 3:4‭-‬6 NASB

He is the one who has helped us tell others about his new agreement to save them. We do not tell them that they must obey every law of God or die; but we tell them there is life for them from the Holy Spirit. The old way, trying to be saved by keeping the Ten Commandments, ends in death; in the new way, the Holy Spirit gives them life.
2 Corinthians 3:6 Living Bible

But now we have been released from the Law, having died to that by which we were bound, so that we serve in newness of the Spirit and not in oldness of the letter.
Romans 7:6 NASB

🌹It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
John 6:63 NASB

Trust Without Fear

In God, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man (flesh) do to me?
In God, whose word I praise, In the Lord, whose word I praise, In God I have put my trust (or trust without fear), I shall not be afraid. What can man do to me?
For You have delivered my soul from death, Indeed my feet from stumbling, So that I may walk before God In the light of the living (life).
Psalms 56:4‭, ‬10‭-‬11‭, ‬13 NASB

As God’s child should I not instinctively  cling with trust to my Father?
This brings my mind back to my child-rearing days when my little ones would cling to me when a stranger was near. It was okay for them to laugh at someone making faces at them as long as they were in the arms of their parent in whom they trusted.
When they were learning to walk, they would hold tight to my hand. They instinctively trusted the hand that would hold them steady as they walked without stumbling.

God has delivered my soul from death, so that I may walk before Him in the light of life without fear of what man can do to me. Yes, in God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid!

The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?
Psalms 118:6 NASB

so that we confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me?”
Hebrews 13:6 NASB

🌹Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Matthew 10:28 NASB

Holy Week – Good Friday

The day Jesus died.
Jesus’ crucifixion can be found in all four gospels:

Matthew 27:1-56; Mark 15:1-41; Luke 22:33-49; John 19:16-30
I recommend reading all four accounts.

Now when morning came, all the chief priests and the elders of the people conferred together against Jesus to put Him to death; and they bound Him, and led Him away and delivered Him to Pilate the governor. But the chief priests and the elders persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to put Jesus to death. Pilate *said to them, “Then what shall I do with Jesus who is called Christ?” They all *said, “Crucify Him!” Then he released Barabbas for them; but after having Jesus scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified. Now from the sixth hour darkness fell upon all the land until the ninth hour. About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit.
Matthew 27:1‭-‬2‭, ‬20‭, ‬22‭, ‬26‭, ‬45‭-‬46‭, ‬50 NASB

And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into Your hands I commit My spirit.” Having said this, He breathed His last.
Luke 23:46 NASB

Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit.
John 19:30 NASB

🌹But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
Isaiah 53:5 NASB
