Feasting & Living?

And He humbled you and let you go hungry, and fed you with the manna which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, in order to make you understand that man shall not live on bread alone, but man shall live on everything that comes out of the mouth of the Lord.
Deuteronomy 8:3 NASB

🌹Are you feasting or starving? Living or dying?

How sweet are Your words to my taste!Ā  Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
Psalms 119:103 NASB

70 Years!?

The inhabitedĀ cities will be laid waste and theĀ land will be a desolation. So you will know that I am theĀ Lord.
Ezekiel 12:20

Recently I’ve heard, “I am so tired of this Covid thing” or, “I am so over this, I am ready to go back to normal”.

What is normal? Living life for me, me, me?

God has a plan. He had a plan for Israel when they went into captivity in Egypt for 70 years. He had a plan when He sent them again into captivity in Babylon under the rule of Nebuchadnezzar.

What is God’s plan? “So you will know that I am the Lord”.

Contentment can be found in nothing less than Almighty God. Contentment can be found during desolation and captivity when our hearts belong to Him. Our focus is on God.

“All the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, But He does according to His will in the host of heaven And among the inhabitants of earth; And no one can ward off His hand Or say to Him, ‘What have You done?’
Daniel 4:35‭ NASB

Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven, for all His works are true and His ways just, and He is able to humble those who walk in pride.”
Daniel 4:37 NASB
(Nebuchadnezzar’s testimony is in Daniel 4. You might want to read it).

🌹Are you humbly focused on God and His will? If this Covid lifestyle should last 70 years you can be content in Him?

Who Rules You?

We have become like those over whom You have never ruled, Like those who were not called by Your name. Isaiah 63:19 NASB

What is different about those called by God than those who are ruled by their own ideals, passions, opinions, morals, assumptions, etc.? Do we resemble them or do we resemble the One to whom we have been called to resemble?

🌹 Who rules your life?

“But to this one I will look, To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word.
Isaiah 66:2b NASB

20/20

Moses said to the people, ā€œDo not be afraid; for God has come in orderĀ to test you, and in order thatĀ the fear of Him mayĀ remain with you, so that you may not sin.ā€ — Exodus 20:20

Most people have had their eyes tested at least once in their lives. Seeing 20/20 is a good thing. If the test has you seeing less than 20/20 you will probably find yourself with a prescription for glasses to improve your vision.

I found it interesting that this verse is 20:20. God desires us to see the sin in our lives for repentance and for avoidance from, to give us a reverence for Him and a real sense of judgement for sin.

The Israelites were tested in the wilderness because God wanted a humble nation whose heart was turned toward God in obedience and trust.

Ā You shall remember all the way which theĀ LordĀ your God hasĀ led you in the wilderness these forty years, that He might humble you,Ā testing you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. Ā — Deuteronomy 8:2

God loves you. God wants the best for you. Testing is to make you more aware (help you see 20/20) so you may fear, revere God.

Need Some Humble Pie?

Then theĀ LordĀ answered Job from the whirlwind:

2Ā ā€œWho is this that questions my wisdom
Ā Ā Ā Ā with such ignorant words?
3Ā Brace yourself like a man,
Ā Ā Ā Ā because I have some questions for you,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and you must answer them.

4Ā ā€œWhere were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Tell me, if you know so much.
5Ā Who determined its dimensions
Ā Ā Ā Ā and stretched out the surveying line?
6Ā What supports its foundations,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and who laid its cornerstone
7Ā as the morning stars sang together
Ā Ā Ā Ā and all the angelsĀ shouted for joy?

8Ā ā€œWho kept the sea inside its boundaries
Ā Ā Ā Ā as it burst from the womb,
9Ā and as I clothed it with clouds
Ā Ā Ā Ā and wrapped it in thick darkness?
10Ā For I locked it behind barred gates,
Ā Ā Ā Ā limiting its shores.
11Ā I said, ā€˜This far and no farther will you come.
Ā Ā Ā Ā Here your proud waves must stop!’

12Ā ā€œHave you ever commanded the morning to appear
Ā Ā Ā Ā and caused the dawn to rise in the east?
13Ā Have you made daylight spread to the ends of the earth,
Ā Ā Ā Ā to bring an end to the night’s wickedness?
14Ā As the light approaches,
Ā Ā Ā Ā the earth takes shape like clay pressed beneath a seal;
Ā Ā Ā Ā it is robed in brilliant colors.
15Ā The light disturbs the wicked
Ā Ā Ā Ā and stops the arm that is raised in violence.

16Ā ā€œHave you explored the springs from which the seas come?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Have you explored their depths?
17Ā Do you know where the gates of death are located?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Have you seen the gates of utter gloom?
18Ā Do you realize the extent of the earth?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Tell me about it if you know!

19Ā ā€œWhere does light come from,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and where does darkness go?
20Ā Can you take each to its home?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Do you know how to get there?
21Ā But of course you know all this!
For you were born before it was all created,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and you are so very experienced!

22Ā ā€œHave you visited the storehouses of the snow
Ā Ā Ā Ā or seen the storehouses of hail?
23Ā (I have reserved them as weapons for the time of trouble,
Ā Ā Ā Ā for the day of battle and war.)
24Ā Where is the path to the source of light?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Where is the home of the east wind?

25Ā ā€œWho created a channel for the torrents of rain?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Who laid out the path for the lightning?
26Ā Who makes the rain fall on barren land,
Ā Ā Ā Ā in a desert where no one lives?
27Ā Who sends rain to satisfy the parched ground
Ā Ā Ā Ā and make the tender grass spring up?

28Ā ā€œDoes the rain have a father?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Who gives birth to the dew?
29Ā Who is the mother of the ice?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens?
30Ā For the water turns to ice as hard as rock,
Ā Ā Ā Ā and the surface of the water freezes.

31Ā ā€œCan you direct the movement of the stars—
Ā Ā Ā Ā binding the cluster of the Pleiades
Ā Ā Ā Ā or loosening the cords of Orion?
32Ā Can you direct the constellations through the seasons
Ā Ā Ā Ā or guide the Bear with her cubs across the heavens?
33Ā Do you know the laws of the universe?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Can you use them to regulate the earth?

34Ā ā€œCan you shout to the clouds
Ā Ā Ā Ā and make it rain?
35Ā Can you make lightning appear
Ā Ā Ā Ā and cause it to strike as you direct?
36Ā Who gives intuition to the heart
Ā Ā Ā Ā and instinct to the mind?
37Ā Who is wise enough to count all the clouds?
Ā Ā Ā Ā Who can tilt the water jars of heaven
38Ā when the parched ground is dry
Ā Ā Ā Ā and the soil has hardened into clods?

39Ā ā€œCan you stalk prey for a lioness
Ā Ā Ā Ā and satisfy the young lions’ appetites
40Ā as they lie in their dens
Ā Ā Ā Ā or crouch in the thicket?
41Ā Who provides food for the ravens
Ā Ā Ā Ā when their young cry out to God
Ā Ā Ā Ā and wander about in hunger? Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā — Job 38 (NLT)

Every time I need a little (or a lot) of humbling I come to this passage in Job.

Entering God’s House

For You are not a GodĀ who takes pleasure in wickedness;

No evilĀ dwells with You.
5Ā TheĀ boastful shall notĀ stand before Your eyes;
YouĀ hate all who do iniquity.
6Ā YouĀ destroy those who speak falsehood;
TheĀ LordĀ abhorsĀ the man of bloodshed and deceit.
7Ā But as for me,Ā by Your abundant lovingkindness I will enter Your house,
At Your holy temple I willĀ bow inĀ reverence for You. — Psalm 5:4-7

Are you entering His house today in humble reverence?

Effective Faith

and I prayĀ that the fellowship of your faith may become effectiveĀ through theĀ knowledge of every good thing which is in youĀ for Christ’s sake. — Philemon 1:6

How is your walk of faith? Are you growing so as to be effective for the sake of Christ? Prayer is fellowship with God which is necessary to see things from God’s perspective, humble us, and to surrender our lives for His purpose.

Fellowship of faith is fellowship with other believers so as to encourage, be encouraged and to sharpen and be sharpened. Along with that is accountability.

Fellowship of faith is filling our mind and hearts with the Word of God. It teaches us His way and allows us to serve in a manner worthy of our Lord by the Holy Spirit’s guidance and bringing to remembrance what we have studied.

Again, how is your faith? “I pray that the fellowship of your faith may become effective through the knowledge of every good thing which is in you for Christ’s sake”.

Face The Music

But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do youĀ regard your brother with contempt? ForĀ we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.

For it is written,

ā€œAs I live, says the Lord,Ā every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shallĀ give praise to God.ā€

So thenĀ each one of us will give an account of himself to God. — Romans 14:10-12

For we must all appear beforeĀ the judgment seat of Christ, so that Ā  each one may be recompensed forĀ  his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. — 2 Corinthians 5:10

But I tell you that everyĀ careless word that peopleĀ speak, they shall give an accounting for it inĀ the day of judgment. — Matthew 12:36

For theĀ Son of ManĀ is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, andĀ will thenĀ repay every man according to hisĀ deeds. Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  — Matthew 16:27

And I saw the dead, theĀ great and the small, standing before the throne, andĀ books were opened; and another book was opened, which isĀ the bookĀ of life; and the deadĀ were judged from the things which were written in theĀ books, according to their deeds. Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  Ā  — Revelation 20:12

Convicting words. When every person who ever lived stands before God at judgement we will all be humbled. There will be no “I am better than, richer than, more successful than, etc.”

And the righteous will be right there with the unrighteous. Are you ready to account for the life you are living? Are you living for Christ or content in believing that “believing in Christ” is enough and you can live life your way?

Everyone will be held accountable. Are you ready to face the music?

Be Not Haughty

do not be haughty in mind, but Ā associate* with the lowly.Ā — Romans 12:16b

*accommodate yourself to lowly things

I remember a time in my life when I would covet my neighbor’s things. Before I owned a house I would envy those who had one. The old junker we were driving paled to the brand new cars on the block. And my mother’s wisdom ringing in my ear, “as long as it gets you from point A to point B”.

“The one who dies with the biggest toys wins”. Remember that bumper sticker? Many want to be judged by what they own, by their position in the workplace, how intelligent they appear and think it below themselves to be seen anywhere but amongst the well-to-do.

The song, “No One Knows What Goes On Behind Closed Doors” reminds me that the outward appearance doesn’t always tell the whole story. The haughty on the outside is probably broken on the inside. Their need is to be recognized. Jesus is not attracted by our status in society. He is concerned with the humble heart who can accept that He is God and take the salvation He has to offer.Ā Jesus was not too proud to associate with the lowly. He went to those who were not distracted by the things of this world, the lowly, to bring a greater gift than anything this world could give.

Are you too proud to accept God’s forgiveness through Jesus Christ? If you have accepted the gift, are you too proud to associate with everyone, including the lowly, who need Christ?
