Holy Week – Tuesday

The withered fig tree:

As they were passing by in the morning, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up. Being reminded, Peter said to Him, “Rabbi, look, the fig tree which You cursed has withered.” And Jesus answered saying to them, “Have faith in God.
Mark 11:20‭-‬22 NASB

And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
Matthew 21:21‭-‬22 NASB

Confrontation with the religious elite:

They came again to Jerusalem. And as He was walking in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to Him, and began saying to Him, “By what authority are You doing these things, or who gave You this authority to do these things?” And Jesus said to them, “I will ask you one question, and you answer Me, and then I will tell you by what authority I do these things. Was the baptism of John from heaven, or from men? Answer Me.”
Answering Jesus, they *said, “We do not know.” And Jesus said to them, “Nor will I tell you by what authority I do these things.”
Mark 11:27‭-‬30‭, ‬33 NASB

Jesus follows up with several parables in Mark 12

Judas . . . . The Plot

The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people. And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve. And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them. They were glad and agreed to give him money. So he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them apart from the crowd.
Luke 22:2‭-‬6 NASB

Back to Jesus . . .

As He was going out of the temple, one of His disciples *said to Him, “Teacher, behold what wonderful stones and what wonderful buildings!” And Jesus said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone will be left upon another which will not be torn down.”
As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew were questioning Him privately, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?” And Jesus began to say to them, “See to it that no one misleads you.
Mark 13:1‭-‬5 NASB
Jesus continues in Mark 13:6-37

🌹Jesus spent three years building a relationship with His disciples, especially with those closest to Him. Do you wonder how Jesus felt in leaving them? As yet I don’t think the reality of Jesus dying was even on the disciples radar. But Jesus knew what was coming for each one of them. I can’t help but believe Jesus was heartbroken over what was about to happen to His disciples’ world – their confusion, desperation, doubt, brokenness and hopelessness over what was about to take place. Not only was Jesus carrying His own burden and anguish but also the same for His disciples. And soon Jesus was to carry the burden of sin for all mankind.

Lord Jesus, thank You for loving Your creation so much that You feel our pain, our anguish, and understand. I pray we would keep our eye on the Lamb, staying focused, and remembering and trusting Your teachings, Your word. Amen.

1 John 5:13-15

These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence which we have before (toward) Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
1 John 5:13‭-‬15 NASB

🌹Faithful God of Your promised word. Thank You for Your Word. The Word made flesh and the written word that promises eternal life to all who believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. Believing, we may have life in His name today and forever.
I am confident, Lord Jesus, that coming before You with a clean heart, one that does not condemn me because I keep Your commandments and do what is pleasing in Your sight, I will receive whatever I ask for from You. With a clean heart my requests will be according to Your will and I am confident that You will hear and answer so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. Glory to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

1 John 5:12

He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. 1 John 5:12 NASB.

Jesus, my glorious Lord and Savior; what wonderful things You have done for those who believe in You. Whoever believes in You has eternal life. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life“. God, thank You for sending Jesus, Your Son, into the world so that the world might be saved. For You did not send Your Son into the world to judge the world but to save it. To those who have received the testimony have set their seal to this, that God You are true. For Jesus, whom God, You sent, speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure. The Father loves the Son and has given all things into His hand. Hallelujah to our faithful, truth bearing Savior, Jesus Christ in whose name I pray, glory to Your name, amen! John 3:15-17/John 3:33-‬35 NASB

🌹He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.” John 3:36 NASB

Do you have the Life? Are you living the Life?

Non-believer:

-Is judged because they do not believe  -Loves the darkness (sin) more than the Light. -Hates the Light so does evil and fears their deeds will be exposed in the Light of Jesus. -the one who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

Believer:

-Is not judged. -Practices the truth and comes to the Light, so that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God who gets the glory. – Is obedient to God and His word. -The one who believes in the Son has eternal life.

1 John 5:10-11

The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself; the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 1 John 5:10‭-‬11 NASB

God of all creation, Your plan is perfect. You created mankind and called them to love, trust and obey You. . . We failed and fell.

But God. You made a way for all mankind to reconcile this fallen relationship. You sent Jesus, Your Son. By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life. He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

GOD, I pray for family near and far; for co-workers, neighbors, acquaintances to know that in Jesus is life, and this life is the Light of men. He who believes in Jesus is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Thank You God for Your Spirit who testifies with my spirit that I am a child of Yours. Guide my words as You give me opportunity to testify and proclaim eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us— Jesus my Savior in whose name I pray, amen.  1 John 4:9/John 3:36/1 John 2:25/John 1:4/John 3:18/Romans 8:16/1 John 1:2 NASB

1 John 5:5

Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?
1 John 5:5 NASB

By faith in You, Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner and in need of a Savior. Everyone is a sinner, as Your Scripture reveals, but it also reveals the promise that by faith in Jesus Christ the righteousness of God would be manifested, would be given to those who believe. And those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God overcomes the world. Out of Your love and care for Your creation, You have commanded that we believe in the name of Your Son Jesus Christ, Lord God, and love one another. Your commandments are not burdensome but freeing. Thank You for loving me and for Your Scripture that guides me, shows me how to walk in step with You through obedience. To You, Almighty Sovereign God, be glory forever, amen.
Romans 3:22/Galatians 3:22/1 John 3:23 NASB

🌹that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

1 John 3:23-24

This is His commandment, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us. The one who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. We know by this that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us. 1 John 3:23‭-‬24 NASB

God, Father, You have commanded me to believe in Your Son, Jesus Christ. It is the true work of Yours, Father, that I believe in Jesus whom You sent. It is You who sent the true bread out of heaven. I am gratefully blessed to be called Your child, God, for I believe in the name of Jesus! You, Lord, have commanded to love one another, even as You have loved. By the power of the Holy Spirit abiding in me others will know I am Your disciple by the love I have for others. Holy Spirit teach me as I read the Word. Hide it in my heart so the love of God will truly be perfected in me. I pray I walk in the same manner as Jesus walked with full assurance that I am abiding in Him. Thank You, God, for Your Holy Spirit. John 6:29/John 6:32/John 1:12/John 13:34-35/1 John 2:5-6 NASB

🌹that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. John 14:17 NASB

1 John 2:25

This is the promise which He Himself made to us (promised to us): eternal life.
1 John 2:25 NASB

God of promises never broken. When You make promises, You keep them. Your will, Father, is that everyone who beholds Your Son and believes in Him will have eternal life. You have promised that You Yourself will raise them up on the last day so that whoever believes will in Jesus has eternal life. Thank You for the hope I have through Jesus for eternity with my awesome God to Your praise and glory and my anticipation of Your promise fulfilled. In Jesus name hallelujah and amen!

1 John 1:1

What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life—
1 John 1:1 NASB

🌹Jesus, Word of God. The Word who was from the beginning. The God of Life who is the Light unto mankind. You are the Word of Life.
Jesus, You are before all things, and in You all things hold together.
Lord God, may I never stop speaking about what I have heard from Your word and seen of Your life changing presence in my life.
Jesus, the Word become flesh, dwelling among Your creation, showing Your glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
As Your child, I pray, I will testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the world so that others will not be unbelieving, but believing as Thomas was when he reached with his finger to Jesus’s hand and reached his hand to the Savior’s wounded side. Jesus, You truly are the Word of Life. Praise and glory to Your name for coming to save mankind from the destruction of sin through Your sacrifice for our salvation. Amen.

Blessed by Faith

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.”             John 20:24‭-‬25 NASB

Then He (Jesus) said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.” Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.”                     John 20:27‭-‬29 NASB

but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.                John 20:31 NASB

It is by the Holy Spirit in you, under the influence  of the word of God, that the world will hear the truth of Christ. Do you believe without seeing? That is faith. But how will faith come if one never hears?

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.        Romans 10:17 NASB

We as believers under the influence of the Holy Spirit must be telling of Jesus. And just as Thomas rejected unless he saw, we will encounter those who do not believe, seeking evidence. We must still share the gospel.

🌹 The outcome is the Lord’s doing, not ours.

Seeing is Believing?

“Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!” Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.  Mark 15:32 NASB

“He saved others; He cannot save Himself. He is the King of Israel; let Him now come down from the cross, and we will believe in Him.    Matthew 27:42 NASB

Isn’t it said that “Seeing is believing”? I’ll believe it when I see it.

Are people any different today?

Jesus’ ministry lasted 3 years and in all that time He revealed Himself. Do you think that His coming down from the cross would have changed their minds? It is by faith that we are saved through God’s grace.

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.  Hebrews 11:1 NASB

for we walk by faith, not by sight       2 Corinthians 5:7 NASB

🌹 How about you? How is your faith?

Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” John 11:40 NASB
