Although He was a Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered. And having been made perfect, He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,
Hebrews 5:8-9 NASB
The Son of God suffered. The Son of God!!! And yet we expect a perfect, smooth ride through life when we are merely adopted children of God.
He learned obedience from the things He suffered.
This really jumped off the page as I read it. Obedience brings suffering?! That isn’t what we expect, is it? Looking over my life as a child of God I have experienced much suffering. And it was at those times that I was close to God. I cried out to Him in fervent prayer. I grew in my walk. I learned. I was obedient. Thank You, Jesus for Your example. Through suffering You showed us what humble obedience to the will of God looks like.
We need affliction to teach us submission. (1)
Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I do my share on behalf of His body, which is the church, in filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions.
Colossians 1:24 NASB
The Christian life is not an easy road. It is not enough to make a profession of faith but not have a personal, intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. We must heed His Word and obey Him. If Jesus is our Savior, He must also be the Ruler, Prince, of your lives. We must be willing, submissive, to let Jesus reign over us. If Jesus isn’t our Ruler, He isn’t our Savior.
And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.
Luke 9:23 NASB

Church
They come to you as people come, and sit before you as My people and hear your words, but they do not do them, for they do the lustful desires expressed by their mouth, and their heart goes after their gain.
Ezekiel 33:31 NASB
Church. Where does church lie on our priority list? What draws us each week to attend?
Do we come as God’s people hungry for the Word of God to feast on and digest throughout the day, the week and follow in obedience? Are our hearts strengthened to be steadfast toward our God? Are we walking faithful in His word?
When we gather in the Sanctuary before our Lord, do we draw near with our words and honor God with our lip service, but remove our hearts far from God? Does our reverence toward God consist of tradition learned by repetition, habit, routine, becoming mechanical?
Psalms 78:36-37/Isaiah 29:13 NASB
🌹We are missing out on the awesome power and movement of the Holy Spirit during Church if we are not completely there in body, heart, soul seeking to draw near to God and be revived for a week of walking obediently with our Lord.

To Obey Is Better Than Sacrifice
Now the Philistines assembled to fight with Israel, 30,000 chariots and 6,000 horsemen, and people like the sand which is on the seashore in abundance; and they came up and camped in Michmash, east of Beth-aven. When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were hard-pressed), then the people hid themselves in caves, in thickets, in cliffs, in cellars, and in pits. Also some of the Hebrews crossed the Jordan into the land of Gad and Gilead. But as for Saul, he was still in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling.
Now he waited seven days, according to the appointed time set by Samuel, but Samuel did not come to Gilgal; and the people were scattering from him. So Saul said, “Bring to me the burnt offering and the peace offerings.” And he offered the burnt offering. As soon as he finished offering the burnt offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him and to greet him. But Samuel said, “What have you done?” And Saul said, “Because I saw that the people were scattering from me, and that you did not come within the appointed days, and that the Philistines were assembling at Michmash, therefore I said, ‘Now the Philistines will come down against me at Gilgal, and I have not asked the favor of the Lord.’ So I forced myself and offered the burnt offering.”
Samuel said to Saul, “You have acted foolishly; you have not kept the commandment of the Lord your God, which He commanded you, for now the Lord would have established your kingdom over Israel forever. But now your kingdom shall not endure. The Lord has sought out for Himself a man after His own heart, and the Lord has appointed him as ruler over His people, because you have not kept what the Lord commanded you.”
1 Samuel 13:5-14 NASB
Do we allow our impatience and anxiousness to turn us to disobey God?
🌹Samuel said, “Has the Lord as much delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices As in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.

Philippians 2:12-13
So then, my beloved, just as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your salvation with fear and trembling; for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure.
Philippians 2:12-13 NASB
Jesus, my Savior, the living source of my salvation, I bow in humble adoration of Your amazing gift of life.
Jesus having been made the perfect man, You became to all those who obey You the source of eternal salvation.
I pray for obedient participation in the gospel, now until Your return. For I am confident of this very thing, that You began a good work in me and will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
For it was fitting for You — for all things are from You, and through You are all things — in bringing many to glory. You are the perfect author of their salvation through sufferings. I thank You God for being the perfector of my salvation and surrender to Your continued authorship in the working out of my salvation.
Lord God, equip me in every good thing to do Your will, working in me that which is pleasing in Your sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Philippians 2:8-11
Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Philippians 2:8-11 NASB
Yesterday’s devotion spoke of the humbleness of Jesus. His grace bestowed upon us. He became poor so we could become rich.
Jesus, my Savior, You are worthy to be praised, for by Your humbleness You brought salvation. What we do see is You, Jesus, who for a little while was given a position “a little lower than the angels, and because, You suffered death for me and others, You are now “crowned with glory and honor”. Yes, by the grace of God You tasted death for everyone. By this I am humbled, Lord. Out of obedience to the Father You were delivered over to the hands of godless men and put to death, nailed to a cross. For through one man’s disobedience all were made sinners, even so through Your obedience, Jesus, many can be made righteous. For this I am truly grateful. And by Your seeking the will of the Father and not Your own You have shown me what I must do, seek Your kingdom first.
I will fix my eyes on You, Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before You endured the cross, despising the shame, and now sit down at the right hand of the throne of God far above all rule and authority and power and dominion. You are far above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come! In Your glorious, everlasting name I pray, amen.

🌹Is God disclosing Himself to you?
Jesus, I desire to see Your glory, for You to reveal Yourself to me. I love You, Lord God and through Your word I diligently seek You and Your wisdom. Don’t Be A Fool
And to man He said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to depart from evil is understanding.’ ”
Job 28:28 NASB
The fear of (reverence for) the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever.
Psalms 111:10 NASB
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Proverbs 9:10 NASB
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 1:7 NASB
God Almighty, whose praise endures forever, I bow before You. In reverence of Your Holy name I commit to reading Your Word everyday so that I may grow in wisdom and knowledge of You. I do not want to walk as the foolish do, who walk in evil without understanding, and despise wisdom and instruction. I desire to walk in the knowledge of the Holy One, my Lord. You are my understanding, God. In understanding I will strive to obey Your commandments. I do not want to be a fool. To know You is to have wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
You are the Holy One in whose name I pray amen.

True God and Eternal Life
And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
1 John 5:20 NASB
God, our Father, we love Your Son because He had come from You. He did not come on His own initiative but in obedience to Your sending Him. Jesus, who was manifested, seen, and testified of has been proclaimed to us for eternal life. He was with You Father and manifested to us. In sending Your Son, He opened our minds to understand the Scriptures through the power of Your Holy Spirit. Through Your Holy Scriptures we may know You, the only true God and Jesus Christ through whom we have eternal life. Although we have never seen You, our Father at any time, Jesus, who is at Your bosom, has explained You.
Father, we know whoever denies Your Son does not have You; the one who confesses the Son also has You, our Father.
Thank You Father for sending Your Son in whose name we pray. Amen.

Freely Given
“I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”
John 10:11, 18 NASB
Or do you think that I cannot appeal to My Father, and He will at once put at My disposal more than twelve legions (= 6000 troops) of angels?
Matthew 26:53 NASB
Lord Jesus, I am astounded, bewildered, overwhelmed by your sacrifice for me. To know that at any time You could have put a halt to this senseless crime against You. But it wasn’t senseless to You. There was and still is a purpose in Your going to the cross. Jesus, burden my heart for the lost and may I follow in Your footsteps to surrender my will for the sake of the gospel – the salvation of the lost. I will take up my cross and follow You for the sake of the gospel and for Your namesake to the triumphant end. In Your glorious name I pray, amen.

Your Choice – All or Nothing
Moses said, ‘The Lord God will raise up for you a prophet like me from your brethren; to Him you shall give heed to everything He says to you. And it will be that every soul that does not heed that prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’
Acts 3:22-23 NASB
This statement is pretty blunt and straight forward, “give heed to EVERYTHING He says to you, if not your soul shall be utterly destroyed”.
🌹We cannot pick and choose what we want to heed, obey, from God’s Word. It is all or nothing.
