Wearing a Heart of Compassion

. . . as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved,
put on a heart of compassion,
Colossians 3:12a,b NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/col.3.12.NASB1995

Chosen of God! What a wonderful gift that comes with compassion.

Seeing the people, He (Jesus) felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd.
Matthew 9:36 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.9.36.NASB1995

Jesus, the great Shepherd, who leads His people, has called us to follow in His footsteps. Have you asked God to fill your heart with compassion, His compassion? Are you practicing compassion toward others?

Compassion: sympathy, empathy, grace, mercy, kindness

Not compassion: indifference, callousness, heartlessness, cruelty, insensitivity

🌹 So,as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion.

5. Journey to The Cross – Jesus Lovingly Lays Down His Life

Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
John 15:13 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jhn.15.13.NASB1995

For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

Thankful for Spiritual Leaders

. . . Jesus *said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He *said to him, “Tend My lambs.”
He *said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” He *said to Him, “Yes, Lord; You know that I love You.” He *said to him,             “Shepherd My sheep.”
He *said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, “Do you love Me?” And he said to Him, “Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” Jesus *said to him, “Tend My sheep.
John 21:15-17 NASB1995

Thank God for our Pastors. Thank God for our Spiritual Leaders. Praise God with thankfulness of heart for those who serve God and pray for them regularly. Their obedience to the call of God has touched believers for the kingdom of God.

“My covenant with him was one of life and peace, and I gave them to him as an object of reverence; so he revered Me and stood in awe of My name. True instruction was in his mouth and unrighteousness was not found on his lips; he walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many back from iniquity. For the lips of a priest should preserve knowledge, and men should seek instruction from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the Lord of hosts.
Malachi 2:5-7 NASB1995

Scriptures we can pray for our Spiritual leaders:

🙏Lord God, we pray for our Spiritual leaders that they would “Be on guard for themselves and for all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made them overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood.
Acts 20:28 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/act.20.28.NASB1995

May they “shepherd the flock of God . . ., exercising oversight not under compulsion, but voluntarily, according to the will of God; and not for sordid gain, but with eagerness; nor yet as lording it over those allotted to your charge, but proving to be examples to the flock.
1 Peter 5:2-3 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1pe.5.2-3.NASB1995

So . . .

🌹. . . when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the unfading crown of glory.
1 Peter 5:4 NASB1995

In Jesus name, amen.

The Temple

For the disobedience of King David, God sent a plague upon the land.

And God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it; but as he was about to destroy it, the Lord saw and was sorry over the calamity, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough; now relax your hand.” And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan (Araunah) the Jebusite.
Chronicles 21:15 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1ch.21.15.NASB1995

Ornan the Jebusite’s threshing floor played an important site in history. An angel of the Lord was standing on this site ready to pour out destruction on Jerusalem. But God . . . in His mercy relented of the destruction to Jerusalem.

Then David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel who was striking down the people, and said, “Behold, it is I who have sinned, and it is I who have done wrong; but these sheep, what have they done? Please let Your hand be against me and against my father’s house.”
2 Samuel 24:17 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2sa.24.17.NASB1995

Then the angel of the Lord commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up and build an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Chronicles 21:18 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1ch.21.18.NASB1995

David went up according to the word of Gad, just as the Lord had commanded.

Araunah (Ornan) looked down and saw the king and his servants crossing over toward him; and Araunah (Ornan) went out and bowed his face to the ground before the king. Then Araunah (Ornan) said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” And David said, “To buy the threshing floor from you, in order to build an altar to the Lord, that the plague may be held back from the people.” Araunah (Ornan) said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what is good in his sight. Look, the oxen for the burnt offering, the threshing sledges and the yokes of the oxen for the wood. Everything, O king, Araunah (Ornan) gives to the king.” And Araunah (Ornan) said to the king, “May the Lord your God accept you.”
However, the king said to Araunah (Ornan), “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price, for I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God which cost me nothing.”
2 Samuel 24:19-24a NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2sa.24.19-24.NASB1995

There is a price to be paid for sin, no matter your stature in life. Jesus paid for our sin.

So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. David built there an altar to the Lord and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Thus the Lord was moved by prayer for the land, and the plague was held back from Israel.
2 Samuel 24:24b-25 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2sa.24.24-25.NASB1995

This took place on the same site where

. . . Solomon began to build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the Lord had appeared to his father David, at the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan (Araunah) the Jebusite.
Chronicles 3:1 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2ch.3.1.NASB1995

God has a plan. We may not know it but need to trust in His leading.

🌹At the site of God’s mercy and Solomon’s repentance, the temple of the Lord God was built.

Judgment – Part 2

But the Lord abides forever; He has established His throne for judgment, And He will judge the world in righteousness; He will execute judgment for the peoples with equity.
Psalms 9:7-8 NASB1995‬
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.9.7-8.NASB1995

Are you among the sheep or the goats?

“But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.
Matthew 25:31-33 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.25.31-33.NASB1995

When Jesus comes will you hear Him say, “Come” or “Depart”?

“Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
Matthew 25:34 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.25.34.NASB1995

“Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;
These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Matthew 25:41, 46 NASB1995

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth. Serve the Lord with gladness;

Silent

He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.
Isaiah 53:7 NASB

Don’t you find it amazing how Jesus was verbally slandered, ridiculed, beaten, harrassed and yet . . . did not open His mouth? He is God!! And He said nothing.

Equally amazing is that all four gospels mention Jesus’ quietness.

But Jesus kept silent.
Matthew 26:63 NASB

And while He was being accused by the chief priests and elders, He did not answer. Matthew 27:12 NASB

But He kept silent and did not answer.
Mark 14:61 NASB

But Jesus made no further answer; so Pilate was amazed.
Mark 15:5 NASB

And he questioned Him at some length; but He answered him nothing.
Luke 23:9 NASB

and he entered into the Praetorium again and *said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.
John 19:9 NASB

With these four eyewitnesses to the silence of Jesus, there must be a lesson here. Could it be that Jesus was content in knowing He was doing the Father’s will and that at anytime He could stop the process? Could He be showing His believers how to trust that He with the Father are in control? Could it be that Jesus was secure to trust the Father’s plan so He didn’t have anything to prove?

Jesus never tried to prove He was God. He never tried to bargain His way out of the situation. He simply trusted.

🌹God, I humbly bow before Your throne, asking that when faced with persecution, as it says in Your word, *”Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted”, that I would desire to bring glory to You instead of trying to save myself. I trust You with every day of my life. Here I am, totally surrendered, simply trusting. In Jesus name, amen.

Harvesters

Seeing the people, He felt compassion for them, because they were distressed and dispirited like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:36‭-‬38 NASB

Our compassionate, caring God sees the distressed and dispirited of this world. What is His desire? That these be reconciled to Him.

🌹Lord God I implore You to change the hearts of Your people to be harvesters for Your kingdom. Open our eyes to see these sheep in need of a Shepherd and open our mouths to speak truth by the power of Your Spirit.

Do You Hear?

Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” — John 18:37

Jesus speaks. Are we listening? Do we recognize His voice? Jesus says, “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;”. If we are His sheep who hear His voice then we will be following Him. That means we are obedient, putting our faith and trust in Him, walking in His ways. We have a relationship with Jesus. When we have a relationship with someone we can recognize their voice before we even see them. We have yet to see Jesus face to face but we should recognize His voice.

Through our relationship with Jesus, grace and truth are realized. Jesus is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:7). This Truth, Jesus Christ, sets us free. In response to His voice we come and are saved from the wrath of God, from our own demise. In response to Christ, we desire to hear His voice. We seek His Word, listen to teachers and preachers, and in quiet prayer we listen for the still small voice of our conscience.

As we develop our relationship with Jesus we start to recognize His voice more and more. We know Him intimately and when others speak we are able to decipher the spirit of truth from the spirit of error. Those who are of God hears the words of God.

Continually seeking Him,

Sharon
