Listen To The Word

Listen to the word of the Lord, O sons of Israel,
For the Lord has a case against the inhabitants of the land,
Because there is no faithfulness (truth) or kindness (loyalty)
Or knowledge of God in the land. — Hosea 4:1

Does the Lord have a case against you?

Written For You

For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. — Romans 15:4

Are you desperate to see a future that doesn’t look dismal? Are you existing to just exist? Is life a dark tunnel of confusion and desperation with no light at the end of the tunnel? No purpose. No reason. No HOPE?

The Bible was written for you! It is filled with instructions for living. It is filled with purpose. It is the light that leads to hope. The Word of God is the Light that floods the dark tunnel.

Try. Let the Scriptures encourage you to persevere in life and give you the hope you so desperately need.

Are You Blessed?

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,

Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers. — Psalm 1:1-3

Be of the Same Mind

Be of the same mind toward one another; — Romans 12:16a

make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. — Philippians 2:2

But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ. — 1 Corinthians 2:15-16

No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you. — John 15:15

Christ unites the body of believers. It is His mind we seek. As we seek to honor and please God the Holy Spirit brings us together in one mind to bring glory to our Lord.

Prayer and Bible study under the power and influence of the Holy Spirit brings like minds, unity and power to the work of God. Are you participating?

Bless, Not Curse

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. — Romans 12:14

Bless (Eulogeo: Greek): to invoke blessing upon a person.

It’s right there, in black and white, in my Bible. Bless those who persecute? Really? I must have read that wrong. No, there it is. Bless and do not curse.

I thought, how can I bless someone who is mean, evil, wrong doing, harsh and many other such words? As I thought on these Words of God I saw a different picture.

If I dwell on persecutors I get angry and my mind wants revenge, for them to suffer as they have made others suffer and pretty soon I find myself enraged and bitter. What does that do to me? That’s my selfish view although justified as I need to dwell on Jesus and “whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise”. (Philippians 4:8) Which way is most effective for the Kingdom of God?

My other thought is what better way can I bless someone than to pray for them. All day long I can hear, read, see persecution everywhere — news, T.V. in general, the internet, Facebook, conversations everywhere — but I wonder how many are praying for the persecuted and especially the persecutors. Just maybe if we started praying for them and our leaders — instead of mocking them, ridiculing them, pointing out all their faults — the earnest prayers of faithful believers just might see God move in miraculous ways in others and in us.

Mercies of God

Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice,  acceptable to God, which is your  spiritual service of worship. — Romans 12:1

God has given us great mercy. How thankful are you for His mercy? Thankful enough to trust Him with your life? Enough to say, “Lord, I am yours. I give myself to you as a holy sacrifice (giving up my life so Jesus can live in and through me)?

God, in reverence to You, I will practice holiness by adhering to Your Word that You may be pleased with me and use me for Your glory. This is how I want to worship You, Lord, by giving You my life and letting Jesus live through me to the glory of You, God. — Amen

Convinced?

Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? — Romans 8:35

For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. — Romans 8:38-39

Do you believe that Jesus is God? Do you trust Him as your Lord? Then nothing can separate you from the love of God.

God’s love for mankind was and is so great that He sent Jesus, His only Son to be crucified so that through Him we may be reconciled to God. Don’t miss what is written, that nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus. You are already separated from God if you don’t know Jesus as Savior and Lord. But the good news is that after you are reconciled to God, nothing can separate you from the love of God.

Do you believe what is written?

Exchanging Truth?

For they exchanged the truth of God for lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. — Romans 1:25

Are you settling for the lie? Do you KNOW the truth?

Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. — John 14:6

that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you. — John 14:17

and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.” 33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never yet been enslaved to anyone; how is it that You say, ‘You will become free’?”

34 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.35 The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son does remain forever. 36 So if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. 37 I know that you are Abraham’s descendants; yet you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you. 38 I speak the things which I have seen with My Father; therefore you also do the things which you heard from your father.”

39 They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus *said to them, “If you are Abraham’s children, do the deeds of Abraham. 40 But as it is, you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 41 You are doing the deeds of your father.” They said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father: God.”42 Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and have come from God, for I have not even come on My own initiative, but He sent Me. 43 Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you cannot hear My word. 44 You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 But because I speak the truth, you do not believe Me. 46 Which one of you convicts Me of sin? If I speak truth, why do you not believe Me? — John 8:32-46

Truth or lies. The choice is yours. Do you know the truth? If you do you hear and accept the truth. If not you are settling for a bunch of lies. To know the truth, seek Jesus in His Word and through prayer.

As For God

“As for God, His way is blameless;
The word of the Lord is tested;
He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. — 2 Samuel 22:31

How comforting. God is faithful and trustworthy.

Burning Books

And many of those who practiced magic brought their books together and began burning them in the sight of everyone; and they counted up the price of them and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. So the word of the Lord was growing mightily and prevailing. — Acts 19:19-20

Could there be books in your life that are stunting the spread of the gospel? Is there entertainment, be it music we listen to, movies we watch, games we play that fill our minds and hearts with fantasy, temptation, things contrary to the Word of God?

I think the new year is a good time to do some burning. The weather outside is conducive to a fire and the fire in our soul could use some refueling by stoking it with the Word of God.

What’s in your life that is inhibiting the consuming fire of the gospel of Jesus Christ?
