“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the Lord of hosts.”
Zechariah 4:6b NASB

“But by My Spirit”

“Woe to the rebellious children,” declares the Lord, “Who execute a plan, but not Mine, And make an alliance, but not of My Spirit, In order to add sin to sin;”
Isaiah 30:1 NASB

“but not of My Spirit,”

“Thus says the Lord, “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind And makes flesh his strength, And whose heart turns away from the Lord.”
Jeremiah 17:5 NASB

We make plans. We put our trust in alliances that are not of God. We trust in our own intellect, our own weak strengths. But did not God give us His Spirit to teach, guide, protect, strengthen by His power and might? Our hearts are turned away when we trust in anything or anyone other than the Lord Himself.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord And whose trust is the Lord.”
Jeremiah 17:7 NASB

Not only trusting IN Him but whose trust IS Him.

Honor God

For even though they knew God, they did not¬†honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became¬†futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened. — Romans 1:21

“did not honor Him as God or give thanks” – Isn’t that where it all begins? The deterioration of mankind. When we begin to neglect the very source and power of our existence. We speculate on unimportant, useless, and pointless things that are ineffective for all mankind. The more we neglect our God, disregarding His glory, provision, salvation, the darker our foolish hearts become.

Let today be different. In every endeavor give God the glory and thank Him in your heart, prayer and with praising song.

But My Eyes Are Open

Saul got up from the ground, and¬†though his eyes were open, he¬†could see nothing; and leading him by the hand, they brought him into¬†Damascus. — Acts 9:8

How many times have you been led by the hand to church on a Sunday morning (for some Saturday night)? I know as a child I was led by the hand of my mother. For years I was led as a blind person, my eyes open but seeing nothing.

How many are sitting in churches this morning, being led by family members, friends, routine, tradition or duty and though their eyes are open, they see nothing? This breaks my heart.

Are you praying for the congregation that you sit with, that the eyes of their hearts will be open? That the message of Jesus Christ would be proclaimed from the pulpit in truth? And have you examined the eyes of your heart to see if you are seeing 20/20?

The church needs reviving and it begins with the individual. I hope you see the Light clearly and pray for healing from the blindness that is invading our churches.

To Speak Or Not

And when they had summoned them, they¬†commanded them not to speak or teach at all¬†in the name of Jesus.¬†But¬†Peter and John answered and said to them, ‚ÄúWhether it is right in the sight of God to give heed to you rather than to God, you be the judge;¬†for¬†we cannot stop speaking about what we have seen and heard.‚ÄĚ — Acts 4:18-20

Do you ever think about what your response would be if confronted by the law and told not to share Jesus? Has Jesus made such an impression in your life that you are willing to risk imprisonment, ridicule, your very life?¬†Is Jesus so alive in your life that you can’t stop speaking of what you have seen and heard?

If not, what needs to change about your walk with the Lord? Are you reading His Word, seeking Him through prayer, loving Him with ALL your heart, soul, mind, and strength and heeding His words in obedience?

Today is the day to make a change. Take time during worship to come face to face with where you are spiritually and humble yourself before the mighty God confessing, repenting and let the healing begin to bring you back into a right relationship with God so that you are effective for His glory.

God bless your worship today.

The Greatest Thing In All My Life: Loving You

Mark Pendergrass
The greatest thing in all my life is loving You.
The greatest thing in all my life is loving You.
I want to love You more; I want to love you more.
The greatest thing in all my life is loving You.

And he answered, ‚ÄúYou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.‚ÄĚ — Luke 10:27

by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding fast to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.‚ÄĚ — Deuteronomy 30:20

I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed and said, ‚ÄúAlas, O Lord, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and lovingkindness for those who love Him and keep His commandments, — Daniel 9:4

Set My Soul Afire Lord

Now as they observed the confidence of Peter and John and understood that they were uneducated and untrained men, they were amazed, and began to recognize them as having been with Jesus. — Acts 4:13

Were Peter and John uneducated? I believe they were educated by the Master Himself. It must have been a different education because “they” were amazed and recognized that Peter and John had been with Jesus. They were different. They had performed a miracle in the name of Jesus. What about today? Are miracles still possible? Is Jesus still alive?

Today we lack, my opinion and observation, being recognized as being with Jesus. I do know some who have sat at the Saviors feet and been instructed by His Word and Holy Spirit. I bet you know a few yourselves. You can just tell that they have been with Jesus by their countenance. Many of those have a passion for the things of God. A heart like God’s. How does one get a heart like God? A passion for the things of God? From God Himself. From sitting at the feet of Jesus and learning from the Master.

Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners will be converted to You.

Psalm 51:10-13

Time spent at the feet of Jesus allows the Lord to do a work in us. It is by His power, and His only, that we can have a clean heart. Surrender to His ways. He will renew our spirit to be steadfast in the passion He puts in our heart. He has given us the Holy Spirit to guide our steps, our way, our coming and our going. He will sustain a surrendered, sacrificial and willing heart. Why would God do all this? So that we can teach transgressors His ways and see the awesome glory of God as sinners are converted to Him. Your daily time of seeking the Lord is so very important. God can use you. Spend time at His feet so He can set your soul afire.

  • Set my soul afire Lord
    Set my soul afire
    Make my life a witness
    Of Thy saving pow’r
    Millions grope in darkness
    Waiting for Thy Word
    Set my soul afire
Lord set my soul afire — Chorus to Set My Soul Afire

Worship In Holy Array

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; Bring an offering, and come before Him; Worship the Lord in holy array. — 1 Chronicles 16:29/Psalm 29:2

What do you bring to the Lord on Sunday (or your day of congregational worship)? Is your offering of worship an offering of praise? A fruitful offering?

God wants us to worship in holy array. Is “holy array” your physical appearance or is it a heart ready to worship in spirit and truth? Is your offering a fruit of the Spirit — love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control?*

God does not see as man sees for God looks at the heart, a heart that has been circumcised. You can come to church all dressed up and looking good but what does your heart look like? Put aside the flesh and worship as you have never worshiped before. Worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus. Totally surrender to the Spirit of truth with a heart full of the fruit of the Spirit.

Continually seeking Him,

But in the fourth year all its fruit shall be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord. — Leviticus 19:24

*Galatians 5:22-23

for we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh, — Philippians 3:3

But the Lord said to Samuel, ‚ÄúDo not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.‚ÄĚ — 1 Samuel 16:7

God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.‚ÄĚ — John 4:24

Do Not Lose Heart

Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we¬†do not grow weary. — Galatians 6:9

The great work of the Lord is good. Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to continue His work on earth through us when He went to be with the Father.  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:5 8) Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we received mercy, we do not lose heart, (2 Corinthians 4:1) Do not grow weary of doing good. (2 Thessalonians 3:13)

The work of the Lord will bring persecution to those who do the work.¬†¬†You will be hated by all because of My name, but¬†it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved. (Matthew 10:22) ¬†But we are not alone. ¬†For¬†consider Him who has endured such hostility by sinners against Himself, so that you will not grow weary¬†and lose heart. (Hebrews 12:3) Jesus is our example of endurance. He endured the cross for the sake of fulfilling the Father’s plan. ¬†When we compare our lives of doing the work of the Lord to the work Jesus did, and is still doing, we can’t even endure what He did. Our sufferings pale to the sufferings Jesus encountered.

Think about the saints who endured. We count those blessed who endured. You have heard of the endurance of Job and have seen the outcome of the Lord’s dealings, that the Lord is full of compassion and is merciful. (James 5:11) God is with us in our ministry giving us the endurance we need to sow good and then reap.

So do not lose heart as you seek Jesus knowing He is with us always.  He endured the cross so we can endure the work of the Lord and then He arose from the dead. Now we must keep enduring for you too be patient; strengthen your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is near.  (James 5:8)

Continue the work of the Lord with endurance because of the mercy shown you by the Lord Jesus Christ knowing that our toil is not in vain. Remember, when things get tough, what Jesus did on the cross for you and don’t grow weary. We have received mercy so let us be patient, strengthen our hearts for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. O glorious day!!!

The Words of My Heart

You shall love the¬†Lord¬†your God¬†with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.¬†6¬†These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. — Deuteronomy 6:5-6

I know I have done a devotional on the first and foremost commandment before but I believe it is worthy of repeating again and again just as it is in the Bible. The focus this time will be more on verse 6.

Moses was serious about His relationship with God and fulfilling His purpose. He wanted the Israelites to be serious about it too. Is your relationship with the Lord and His purpose for you a serious matter in your life? Is it important enough to share with others? Do you impress the Word of God on your heart and soul?

This is really not an option. It is a commandment. So if you love the Lord your God, you will read His Word, pray for understanding, and practice what you read. Be a walking testimony of God’s Word. Maybe that would be like binding them as a sign on your hand or as frontals on your forehead. Be so transparent that Jesus is seen written all over you and when you speak you proclaim the words of God. Be a blessing.

Continually seeking Him,

You shall therefore¬†impress these words of mine on your heart and on your soul; and you shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as¬†frontals¬†on your forehead. — Deuteronomy 11:18
