Thankful Praying

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 NASB1995

What a friend we have in Jesus. One so near who knows our wants and needs before we even open our mouths but listens anyway. I am so thankful He is only a breath away.
When I pour out my heart, He brings my heart to thankfulness. Thankful that He is big enough to handle the tears, fears, troubles and my confessions of sin. Thankful that He is a forgiving God and able to restore my heart and mind. Thankful for His peace and grace; forgiveness and restoration.

Anxiety replaced with peace.
Requests turned to thankful praise.
Yes, I am very thankful I have a friend in Jesus.

To Whom Do I Turn?

Living life is not always easy. Like when the bottom falls out of your perfectly planned day. The times when your kids are too quiet and you find they have totally redecorated your sofa with markers and glued on flowers. Or maybe the stress of having enough income to cover this month’s bills. The news that there is a layoff coming to your workplace. Where do you go? What do you do?

In my distress I called upon the Lord, And cried to my God for help; He heard my voice out of His temple, And my cry for help before Him came into His ears.
Psalms 18:6 NASB1995

In my trouble I cried to the Lord, And He answered me.
Psalms 120:1 NASB1995

🌹Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.”

Dwell in The Love of God

But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in the love of God, waiting anxiously for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to eternal life.
Jude 1:20-21 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jud.1.20-21.NASB1995

Contend earnestly for the faith. Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called,
having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith. Just as you were instructed, encourage one another and build up one another, overflowing with gratitude. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints while anxiously looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus.
Jude 1:3/1 Timothy 6:12/Colossians 2:7/1 Thessalonians 5:11/Ephesians 6:18/Titus 2:13 NASB1995

🌹so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin, to those who eagerly await Him.

Favorite Verse

Do you have a special verse that speaks to you? A verse that may encourage you, give you relief, peace; strengthens you or guides you?

I treasure all of God’s word but I have a verse that stands out in my life.  Moses is a favorite of mine. He was used by God.  He knew God and God knew him. The verse I want to share today is:

Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!”
Exodus 33:18 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/exo.33.18.NASB1995

I often ask God to show me His glory and He has revealed it to me. My mind and eyes, over the years have been trained, I believe, to see God’s glory as I walk with Him in life. I see His glory in the magnificence of a sunset or sunrise. I hear His glory in the laughter of a giggling child. God reveals His glory in an answered prayer, a new believer, scripture that comes at just the right time, from a friend or reading it somewhere, and so many other ways. I watch closely to see God’s glory.

I would love to be encouraged by your verse or verses if you are willing to share it and how it speaks to you.

🌹Jesus *said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?”

Struggling in Prayer

Many people struggle with being a “good” prayer warrior. We feel that we need to carry the conversation instead of being still. We strive to say the right words, many times throwing out those “religious” words or quoting scripture. God already knows the scripture, after all He wrote them. He already knows what we are going to say before we pray.

Do we put too much emphasis on the “what we pray” instead of Who we are praying to? Sometimes just being in His presence is enough. God just wants our attention, our devotion, our focus, not because He needs it but because we need it. God already knows the outcome of all His Creation. Prayer just opens our eyes to see results and participate in what He is accomplishing. Our focus is Him. Prayer opens our eyes to see what He is doing.

🌹“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

The Power of Earnest Prayer

Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the earth for three years and six months. Then he prayed again, and the sky poured rain and the earth produced its fruit.
James 5:17-18 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.5.17-18.NASB1995

In 1 Kings 17:1-7 Elijah says there will be no rain.

In Luke 4:25 Jesus affirms that Elijah prayed and there was no rain for three years and six months.

In 1 Kings 18:41-46 Elijah prays and the rain returned.

“And the earth produced its fruit”.

The power of prayer and the fruit of prayer.

Prayer is powerful. It changes lives. . . It changes us. . . It changes others.
Who are you earnestly praying for? Do you believe that you will see the fruit of your prayers?

🌹First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, . . . This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Prayer Offered in Faith -2

Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much.
James 5:16 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.5.16.NASB2995

Confession of our sins to one another is not for condemnation but for healing by the power of faithful prayer for one another.

Jesus paid the price for our benefit, to be healed from the power of sin and to live in righteousness.

🌹and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

Prayer Offered in Faith -1

Is anyone among you sick? Then he must call for the elders (Gr. ekklesia – called out one) of the church and they are to pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer offered in faith will restore the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he has committed sins, they will be forgiven him.
James 5:14-15 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.5.14-15.NASB1995

Anointing with oil was common in the Old Testament and a continued custom in Jesus’ day, as we can read in Mark 6. Jesus sends His disciples out by two and they were anointing many sick people and healing them.

The emphasis in this passage of James is the power of prayer offered in faith. The prayer of faith will save. The Lord will lift them up and forget their sin. I can’t help but think the source of sin is the sickness.

By faithful believing prayer the sick are healed, brought to salvation. The salvation that begins with prayer and extends into eternity.

Thank God for the power of prayer that saves lives. Who are you praying for?

Prayer & Praise

Is anyone among you suffering? Then he must pray. Is anyone cheerful? He is to sing praises.
James 5:13 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.5.13.NASB1995

Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.”
Psalms 50:15 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.50.15.NASB1995

My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.
Psalms 63:5 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.63.5.NASB1995

🌹What is the outcome then? I will pray with the spirit and I will pray with the mind also; I will sing with the spirit and I will sing with the mind also.

Reflections of a Murderer

What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. . .
James 4:1-2 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.4.1-2.NASB1995

Selfish desires are at the root of many a conflict. We need to acknowledge these desires, confess them to the Lord, and then repent before we are found guilty of murder.

“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not commit murder’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.
Matthew 5:21-22 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.5.21-22.NASB1995

Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
1 John 3:15 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1jn.3.15.NASB1995

The Lord Jesus abides in the person of faith. There is no room for division among the people of faith since Jesus is the author and perfector of our faith. It is He who disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in His holiness. There is no quarrel or conflict with a brother or sister in Christ worth standing guilty before our Lord God.
Hebrews 12:2 NASB1995¹
Hebrews 12:10 NASB1995²

🌹We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1 John 3:16 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1jn.3.16.NASB1995

Experiencing quarrels or conflicts with a fellow believer? Take them to the throne of grace in prayer and let God handle it. He can change your heart and theirs as well.
