Our Helper

“These things I have spoken to you while abiding with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
John 14:25‭-‬26 NASB

“These things I, Jesus, have spoken to you”. The spoken word of Christ to His disciples. Who is Jesus?
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14 NASB1995
Jesus, the Word made flesh. Jesus who spoke truth to His disciples. How do we hear Jesus? Through the Bible. Do you want to know God, His plans, His character, His love for you? Pick up the Bible and read it. Read it daily. Read it often. Listen to it. Obey it.

If you are a born again believer you have the Holy Spirit of God in you. How awesome is that?! He was given as a Helper who will teach us. As we read the Bible the Holy Spirit teaches us like Jesus taught the disciples. His spoken word.

The really awesome part of having the Holy Spirit residing in us is that when we fill our mind and heart with the word of God the Holy Spirit uses the Bible to direct our steps, speak truth, testify of Jesus and brings to remembrance the Word of God when needed.

🌹Jesus. Savior. Promise Keeper. Thank You for sending forth the promise of the Father, the Holy Spirit, upon us, who clothes us in the power from on high. The Holy Spirit, our Helper, sent by You, the Father, is the Spirit of truth who testifies of Jesus to us. Help us to believe the Scriptures and the word which You, Jesus, have spoken and to be obedient and learn from the teaching of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus name, amen.
Luke 24:49/John 15:26/John 2:22 NASB

Tablet of Your Heart

Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.
For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name.
Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, According as we have hoped in You.
Psalms 33:21-‬22 NASB

Scripture is a great place to learn to pray. God’s timeless word that expands many generations. God’s words spoken back to Him from the mouth of His children.

Personalizing God’s word back to Him, the One who wrote it, is a good way to “write it on the tablet of your heart”.

Do not let kindness and truth leave you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Proverbs 3:13 NASB

🌹Prayer: My soul waits for You, Lord; You are my help and my shield. My heart rejoices in You, God, because I trust in Your holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon me, according as I have hoped in You.

In Your holy name I pray, amen.

Have a blessed day in the Lord.

The Bible

Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
Acts 17:11 NASB

Do you know the truth? The truth found in the word of God, the Bible? Or are you trusting your eternity to a man in a pulpit, a “Christian” friend, the heritage passed on by your parents?
We can be blessed by all of the above but how do we know it is spoken correctly?

We need to examine the Scriptures, Bible, daily. Yes, daily, to know the truth. The best part is that you can rejoice when you know the person in front of you is speaking the truth and you can add to the conversation because you know what they are talking about. It is also great affirmation of God’s word and His ways when you can agree with and understand what is being said. God reveals Himself through His word.

🌹 Now is the time apply yourself to His word so you can see how awesome God is!!

P.S. There are lots of Bible reading plans out there for “Read the Bible in a Year”.

Written Instruction

For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope. Romans 15:4‭ NASB

Are you discouraged, weak, fearful, without hope? Encouragement, strength, perseverance, hope are found in the Holy Bible. God knew we would need His instruction so He gave us His word. What an awesome, loving God.

Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Romans 15:5-‬6 NASB

All for His glory is our instruction. Our instruction is for the unity of the body. Unity of the body is for His glory. The benefit for us is encouragement and hope.

🌹 Read the word.

God Will Be Known

I will magnify Myself, sanctify Myself, and make Myself known in the sight of many nations; and they will know that I am the Lord.”‘
Ezekiel 38:23 NASB

As you read the Scripture prior to this statement by God, “that many nations will know that I am God”, it is not a pretty picture. It is a picture of destruction.

God is gracious and has great mercy but when blatant disobedience continues with no regard to God’s love, lordship, grace, mercy, His will and way, then punishment is inevitable.

🌹How far are you willing to push the limit of God’s grace and mercy? God will make Himself known to all.

Testimony

“Only give heed to yourself and keep your soul diligently, so that you do not forget the things which your eyes have seen and they do not depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your sons and your grandsons. — Deuteronomy 4:9

You shall teach them to your sons, talking of them when you sit in your house and when you walk along the road and when you lie down and when you rise up. — Deuteronomy 11:19

Train up a child in the way he should go,
Even when he is old he will not depart from it. — Proverbs 22:6

Do you have a testimony to share? Is God alive in your life? Do you walk with Him daily? Have you seen the power of God working in you through His Word?

We have lost the power of a testimony in our world. If God is alive and working in our lives we are commanded to not forget what our eyes have seen and to not let them depart from our hearts but to tell of them. Let us pass the legacy of Jesus Christ onto our children and grandchildren by telling them of the great and wonderful things He has done in our lives. But don’t stop there. Tell everyone. You could be encouraging a brother/sister or introducing Jesus to someone. Let us not be silent.

Inspiration Of God

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. — 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Who is your authority in matters of life? Morality? Decision making? Spiritual development?

Anticipation

Have you experienced being called by God to do something and you are so excited and are confident that things are moving forward toward that goal God has placed on your heart? Well about a month ago God rekindled in my heart a vision I had about 3 years ago. I have prayed, planned and waited on God’s go ahead. When God is ready to use you it is so exciting, scary, exhilarating, challenging all at once. But God doesn’t just drop a plan in your lap and expect you to fulfill His plan alone. No, He continues to walk with you revealing His plan as you trust in Him.

Last night I had some young women over to my house to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with them. Now this plan had been moving forward for a month now and I kept praying that God would use me for His glory and that I was not going to expect anything but would anticipate that God would do something this night. As of Wednesday I had confirmed that 3 women would be coming. I continued to trust the Lord that even if it was just those 3 that God had a plan for them.

Wednesday morning He sent me this scripture passage via a text that is sent to me each morning:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set free those who are oppressed,
19 To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.” — Luke 4:18-19

What affirmation that Jesus is with me and still fulfilling His purpose through me. Jesus came to preach the gospel, release the captives, free the oppressed and He is still doing it through His followers. Seeing and reading this passage encouraged me so much. I heard God telling me that Jesus would be with me and through me He would continue what He started many, many years ago.

Then yesterday’s scripture was:

You did not choose Me but I chose you, and appointed you that you would go and bear fruit, and that your fruit would remain, so that whatever you ask of the Father in My name He may give to you. — John 15:16

I took full advantage of this verse believing that God has chosen me to share the gospel with these young ladies and I was bound and determined not to let my Lord down. I would bear fruit, fruit that would remain. I prayed some more for these ladies and the night. God leads through scripture. God encourages through scripture. And through prayer He used me last night to His glory. He blessed me with a very receptive group of women. That group totaled 7 of us. Is my God not amazing?

Seven women. Anticipating His greatness and work He blessed me. Of those 6 beautiful women, all participated in the activities and listened intently to what I shared. Best of all . . . they all want to come back next month. I am overjoyed at the work of the Lord through this imperfect person He calls His child.

I can’t wait until next month to see what He has planned. I will wait in anticipation of His work. No expectations, just anticipation. God is awesome and I am blessed. Thank you Lord for using me.

Writer’s Block

having been firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith, just as you were instructed, and overflowing with gratitude. — Colossians 2:7

Sometimes scripture just jumps off the page and you have such a testimony to tell. Other times scripture just seems to sit on the page and do nothing. Let me tell you that scripture is always good and has something to say but it is the one who reads it that is closed to it. It could be that the person has not received the Holy Spirit, through salvation, to interpret the scripture. It could be that sin in the life of a person is blocking understanding. It could be that it is just a dry time in the life of a person. Today I am experiencing a dry time.

Dry times are those times when we need to rely upon the Word of God that is firmly rooted in our hearts that establish our faith. When I have a dry time I always seem to look to who God is, all the blessings He has bestowed upon me, and how He has transformed me and continues to do so. I can’t help but be filled with joy and gratitude when I focus on Him. Psalm is usually the book I look to. Today Colossians spoke to me.

I overflow with gratefulness when I examine my life and realize the work of transformation the Lord has done in me. It is not anything I have done but what He has done. When I am reminded of His great mercy, grace and love I can’t help but be grateful and write of the joy that comes from focusing on the One true God.  Again He has come through with something to write about. To God be the glory!

Thank You Jesus.

Shine Jesus Shine

This morning at worship I was blessed by singing one of my favorite songs. I turned it into a prayer as I often do. The song brought so much truth and Scripture to mind I couldn’t help but be moved to write devotionals pertaining to the song. I hope you will be blessed by this Cliff Richard song.

Lord the Light or Your Love is shining,
In the midst of the darkness shining,
Jesus light of the world shine upon us,
Set us free by the truth You now bring us,
Shine on me. Shine on me.

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of life.” — John 8:12

For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, — Colossians 1:13

[Walk by the Spirit ] It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. — Galatians 5:1

Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. — John 14:6

God’s Word says it so well. I will close here with — Jesus is the light of the world who rescued us from the domain of darkness, set us free to stand firm on His life because He is the way and truth. God bless you as you allow Him to shine on you.
