Reflections of a Murderer

What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is not the source your pleasures that wage war in your members? You lust and do not have; so you commit murder. You are envious and cannot obtain; so you fight and quarrel. . .
James 4:1-2 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.4.1-2.NASB1995

Selfish desires are at the root of many a conflict. We need to acknowledge these desires, confess them to the Lord, and then repent before we are found guilty of murder.

“You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘You shall not commit murder’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’ But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.
Matthew 5:21-22 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.5.21-22.NASB1995

Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer; and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
1 John 3:15 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/1jn.3.15.NASB1995

The Lord Jesus abides in the person of faith. There is no room for division among the people of faith since Jesus is the author and perfector of our faith. It is He who disciplines us for our good, so that we may share in His holiness. There is no quarrel or conflict with a brother or sister in Christ worth standing guilty before our Lord God.
Hebrews 12:2 NASB1995¹
Hebrews 12:10 NASB1995²

🌹We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1 John 3:16 NASB1995

Experiencing quarrels or conflicts with a fellow believer? Take them to the throne of grace in prayer and let God handle it. He can change your heart and theirs as well.

Lacking Wisdom?

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
James 1:5 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.1.5-8.NASB1995

Solomon, a young boy becomes King. He prays asking God for discernment in judging His great people. Solomon was asking for wisdom and knowledge to rule God’s people well.
It was pleasing in the sight of the Lord that Solomon had asked this. God gave Solomon a wise and discerning heart.
1 Kings 3:9-10/2 Chronicles 1:10

God said to Solomon, “Because you had this in mind, and did not ask for riches, wealth or honor, or the life of those who hate you, nor have you even asked for long life, but you have asked for yourself wisdom and knowledge that you may rule My people over whom I have made you king, wisdom and knowledge have been granted to you.”
2 Chronicles 1:11-12a NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/2ch.1.8-12.NASB1995

Are you seeking wisdom from God?

. . . ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
James 1:6-8 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jas.1.5-8.NASB1995

🌹And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

Waiting in Silence

Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord.
Psalms 27:14 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.27.14.NASB1995

My soul waits in silence for God only; From Him is my salvation.
Psalms 62:1 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.62.1.NASB1995

“My soul waits in silence.” That’s hard for some of us, isn’t it? Waiting is hard enough, but in silence? Really?
But God. He is found in the stillness of our mind; in the openness of our heart, willing to receive a word from Him; in the silent waiting. Jesus is our continual salvation minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day.

Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield.
Psalms 33:20 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.33.20.NASB1995

I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait, And in His word do I hope.
Psalms 130:5 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/psa.130.5.NASB1995

🌹My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him.

13. Journey to The Cross – This is Eternal Life

Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life.
John 17:1-2 NASB1995

🌹This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.

10. Journey to The Cross – Jesus Before The Father

In the days of His flesh, He offered up both prayers and supplications with loud crying and tears to the One able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His piety.
Hebrews 5:7 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/heb.5.7.NASB1995

Jesus was heard. God hears your prayers.

“You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man is to be handed over for crucifixion.”
Matthew 26:2 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.26.2.NASB1995

Then He *said to them (three of His disciples), “My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me.”
And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will.”
Matthew 26:38-39 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.26.38-39.NASB1995

He went away again a second time and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cannot pass away unless I drink it, Your will be done.”
Matthew 26:42 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.26.42.NASB1995

Are you willing to say, “Your will be done”, as Jesus did?

🌹Get up, let us be going; behold, the one who betrays Me is at hand!”

6. Journey to The Cross 🙏 Jesus Prayed for You, Future Believer

“O righteous Father, although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me; and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
John 17:25-26 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jhn.17.25-26.NASB1995

Jesus prayed to the Father for His disciples to be filled with the love of the Father; for Himself to be in them. Then Jesus prayed for all who will believe the gospel that has been passed down for generations.

“I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me.
John 17:20-21 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/jhn.17.20-21.NASB1995

🌹I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are.

It’s Heart Conditioning

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.
Romans 12:14 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/rom.12.14.NASB1995

How can you bless them?

But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
Matthew 5:44 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/mat.5.44.NASB1995

bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
Luke 6:28 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/luk.6.28.NASB1995

By prayer we ask for God to bless them. This does two things; it puts the one you are praying for in God’s hands and secondly it humbles our heart toward our enemy. We don’t need to carry the burden of hatred, anguish, resentment, etc. Instead we overcome by the word of God and His power.

🌹Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Prayer is Power

Daniel and his friends, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah went to the Lord in prayer . . .

Then the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven;
Daniel 2:19 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/dan.2.19.NASB1995

🌹To You, O God of my fathers, I give thanks and praise, For You have given me wisdom and power; Even now You have made known to me what we requested of You, For You have made known to us the king’s matter.”
Daniel 2:23 NASB1995

Prayer Warriors

So Daniel went in and requested of the king that he would give him time, in order that he might declare the interpretation to the king.
Daniel 2:16 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/dan.2.16.NASB1995

Then Daniel went to his house and informed his friends, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, about the matter, so that they might request compassion from the God of heaven concerning this mystery, so that Daniel and his friends would not be destroyed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.
Daniel 2:17-18 NASB1995
https://bible.com/bible/100/dan.2.17-18.NASB1995

🙏Is there someone in your life who you can count on to pray with and for you? If you don’t, pray, asking God to bring you a friend with whom you can count on to be a prayer warrior on your behalf.

🌹Thank God for friends who pray with and for one another.
