I found it very interesting that in all the I am’s I found, the list for “Lord” had the most references. I was once told that if the Bible stated something more than once it must be a very important message the Lord wants us to know. As I look over the list I see how easy it is accept that our God is King, a shield, a helper, teacher, etc. but when it comes to Lord it is a little harder to swallow. For God to be Lord of my life I must surrender all that I have, all that I am to His will and purpose. Hmm, could that be why the great I AM spoke so often, “I am Lord”?

Is He Lord of your life?

Know

“Cease striving and know that I am God; — Psalm 46:10

Know: experience, understand
Cease striving, relax, wait upon the Lord and know. Know that He is our refuge: God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.*It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans.^ my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my Savior — from violent people you save me.~

*Psalm 46:1
^Psalm 118:8
~2 Samuel 22:3

Know that we find rest in Him when we spend time in prayer with Him. Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him;* He bids us “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.^

*Psalm 37:7a
^Matthew 11:28

As we seek refuge and rest in Him we know forgiveness as we confess our sins. But there is forgiveness with You, That You may be feared.* And experience His grace: But You, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, Slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness and truth.^ Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.~

*Psalm 130:4
^Psalm 86:15
~Hebrews 4:16

Being still and focusing on Jesus we find peace, love and wonderful fellowship. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.* For He Himself is our peace.^ He has given us peace: Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.~ For He is the Prince of Peace+

*Philippians 4:6-7
^Ephesians 2:14a
~John 14:27
+Isaiah 9:6

We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. And There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.* In this abiding we have fellowship with Him: that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;^

*1 John 4:16,18
^Philippians 3:10

We will know joy with time spent with Jesus in prayer and fellowship: Then he will pray to God, and He will accept him, That he may see His face with joy, And He may restore His righteousness to man.* For I will turn their mourning into joy And will comfort them and give them joy for their sorrow.^

*Job 33:26
^Jeremiah 31:13b

That time you take to be still you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”* Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.^ Sitting with Jesus builds our confidence to follow Him without wavering. For the Lord will be your confidence And will keep your foot from being caught.~

*John 8:32
^John 14:6
~Proverbs 3:26

So in closing we can see that being still in the presence of God is essential to our lives. Jesus is our Refuge, Rest, and because of His grace and mercy we know forgiveness, His awesome love, and we have fellowship with Him as God planned. God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.* Jesus is the way, the truth and the life. We need Him everyday. He bids us come.

Be Still, Cease Striving

Cease (let go, relax) striving and know that I am God; — Psalm 46:10 NASB
Be still, and know that I am God! — Psalm 46:10 NLT

As I enter into a new season of life, transitioning from a caretaker of my parents to being back home with my husband after 21 months, I find myself in limbo. I know that God has a plan for me but in the meantime what do I do with myself? I have always worked outside the home so do I go and look for a job? Is that what God wants me to do? Where do I even begin to look for a job? I have things that will keep me busy at home as I return my home back to a feminine touch from the bachelor pad it has become. My heart is ministry and would love to do that full time although I know that I can still work and minister. So many thoughts and ideas going through my head. Then there is the mourning of leaving behind the friendships I made over the past two years, not to mention my Mother who has been left in the hands of my brothers. Often guilt arises and questions as to whether I’ve done the right thing. Questions, confusion, lost, distress. Where do I turn? Where do I go from here?

Be still, my child. Cease striving. Relax. Let go.

Let go of the struggles, the to-do list, feelings of oppression, inadequacies, sin, failures, turmoil, trials, and others allowing God to do His work in you. “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.* This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to me and resting in me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength.^

Wait patiently. That is hard to do. It has been my experience that God leads where He wants me to go. I wait on Him and divine appointments happen that open doors to employment, places to live, provisions, etc. It is not the norm for most people. They tend to believe you need to pursue, which is done without the counsel or guidance of God. I seek Him first then by the guidance of the Lord I pursue where He leads. I waited patiently for the Lord; And He inclined to me and heard my cry.+ Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him;< My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him.~>

I can relax in the presence of the Lord and be restored. Waiting in His silence I am strengthened by the hope that is found in Him. When I surrender all to Him he blesses me beyond all I can imagine, meeting my every need, directing my every step. He becomes my direction, my strength, my hope, my all. That is where I want to be. I am renewed.

“Now Lord, You are releasing Your bond-servant to depart in peace, According to Your word; — Luke 2:29

Happy Father’s Day

I posted this on my Facebook page yesterday and had such a great response I thought I would share it here. Simply to God’s glory!

Happy Father’s Day to the most Majestic, Awesome, Compassionate, Caring, Loving, Mighty, Pure, Holy, Father I have ever known. He knew me before I was and is with me forever. His name is God, the great I AM. How blessed I am to be His. And He loved me so much that He gave me Jesus as a Savior and friend who intercedes for me. He also gave me the Holy Spirit who is my wonderful mentor and teacher. And if that wasn’t enough, He gave me an earthly Father to watch over me and help me to know Him. I am blessed by a great Father of my children who is an example of our Father God. God continues to bless me with Father’s all around me adding the Father of my soon to be grandchild. All these earthly Fathers are a blessing given to me by the Best Father ever. Thank you God for being my Abba Father and Happy Father’s Day!!!

Crowded

Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. 18 And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word, 19 but the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful. — Mark 4:7, 18-19

The heart can be a crowded place when we try to make room for God’s will and our will. So crowded that the things of this world can choke out the fruit of the spirit.

The Word of God is filled with the promises of God which are reliable. We can trust God’s Word. We can trust Jesus who is the living Word. When the desires of this life outweigh the desire for God and His ways, we are not fruitful. When we are carried away by the riches that entice us instead of trusting Jesus for all we need, worrying, then we are not fruitful.

The ways of the world will choke out the ways of God. It is not enough to hear the Word of God, we must do the Word of God. Instill it in our hearts, practice it daily and trust God at His Word.

Don’t let the things of this world be more important than eternity. Let God transform you by the power of His Word so that your life is fruitful and abundant, bringing glory to God. Seek Him daily in His Word and in prayer.

Listen And Miss The Mess

Your ears will hear a word behind you, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right or to the left. — Isaiah 30:21

An incident happened last evening that brought my mind to reflect upon this verse at the rib cook-off fellowship at church. Everything went well and with an extremely full stomach I thought it a good idea to work off some of that fullness by helping clean up.

I gathered up my glass salad bowl with a bit a fruit salad left to take home (I didn’t eat any at the dinner hoping to have leftovers to enjoy later) and placed it out in the hallway on a dehumidifier unit. A thought came immediately into my mind, “If you place that bowl there it could fall off from the vibration of the machine”. I chose to ignore that wise counsel and placed it there and went back to cleaning up.

It wasn’t very long when I was approached by a man who informed me that my salad took a dive and the bowl shattered into pieces. Hmmm. Now there is a mess to clean up. Why couldn’t I have listened to that thought that came into my head?

God does that. He speaks to us. Sometimes a still small voice, sometimes as clear as I heard the instruction to not put the bowl where I placed it. When the Lord speaks we should heed His words or we will find ourselves in a big mess that we will have to clean up.

The Lord God promises us that “Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or to the left.” In seeking Him daily listen and practice obedience to His every Word.

Righteous in God’s Eyes

Zechariah and Elizabeth were righteous in God’s eyes, careful to obey all of the Lord’s commandments and regulations. — Luke 1:6 (NLT)
They were both righteous in the sight of God, walking blamelessly in all the commandments and requirements of the Lord. -Luke 1:6 (NASB)

In the sight of God are you righteous? Righteousness is characterized by uprightness or morality: Morally right or justifiable. Acting in an upright, moral way; virtuous. Many people who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ can be upright and moral. So what is the difference?

God is the judge on righteousness. I believe it is also seen in our reaction to our walking with the Lord. We are careful, diligent, focused on obeying His Word because we desire to please our God. In our desire to walk in the light of Jesus is where our righteousness is seen. We can walk in an upright and moral manner but not have the desire to please God in our walk.

So what does your walk look like? Is it different enough that God would see you as righteous in His sight?

Blessed Is The One Who Is Forgiven

How blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered! — Psalm 32:1

How true a verse this is. Forgiveness of sin brings salvation, eternity in a relationship with Almighty God through Jesus Christ. From forgiveness comes confidence that we can walk our journey not worrying about stumbling because we are already forgiven. Forgiveness brings us boldly to the throne of God because we know He is a compassionate, forgiving God who accepts us.  Forgiveness gives us courage to venture out into faith knowing that when we make a mistake we are forgiven. Knowing we are forgiven lifts the burden of an unintentional sinful act that is weighing us down.

All sin covered by the blood of Jesus. Forgiveness is free for the asking and accepting of the gift of forgiveness.  That is the key. Sometimes we fall short of the glory of God but we don’t accept the forgiveness of God because we can’t forgive ourselves. If God has forgiven then we need to forgive. Why? Because blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.

Thank God for His tremendous blessing of forgiveness!

Sharon
